Saturday’s roster moves finished the Week 9 picture that Friday’s final injury report left open. The Rams formally activated Myles Garrett from injured reserve and moved cornerback Jaylen Watson to IR, Cleveland said Deshaun Watson has cleared the concussion protocol but will remain the backup to Shedeur Sanders, and Saints rookie Jordyn Tyson is expected to make his NFL debut against the Browns. Earlier Saturday, Kyler Murray’s injury was diagnosed as a Grade 2 hamstring strain, Drew Lock was revealed to be playing through elbow tendinitis, and New England set a possible timeline for A.J. Brown.
- Rams: Garrett and running back Ronnie Rivers activated; Jaylen Watson to IR; McQuaide and Damarion Williams elevated
- Browns: Watson cleared and questionable, Sanders still starts; Sam Kamara promoted, Carsen Ryan elevated
- Saints: No. 8 pick Jordyn Tyson set to debut after missing the season with a hamstring injury
- Vikings: Murray has a Grade 2 hamstring strain and will miss Monday night, possibly longer
- Seahawks: Lock starts through throwing-elbow tendinitis
- Patriots: A.J. Brown could return after the Week 11 bye
Rams activate Myles Garrett, move Jaylen Watson to IR
Los Angeles made Garrett’s return official Saturday, activating the edge rusher from injured reserve a day after he finished the week without a game designation. Garrett has not played since knee surgery after the season opener, and Sean McVay had said he expected him to play at Washington barring a setback. Running back Ronnie Rivers also came off reserve.
To open the roster spot, the Rams placed cornerback Jaylen Watson on injured reserve; he needs season-ending surgery. Long snapper Jake McQuaide and cornerback Damarion Williams were elevated from the practice squad, McQuaide for the second time this season. The Rams play without tight end Terrance Ferguson, who was ruled out Friday night, and cornerback Trent McDuffie is questionable.
Deshaun Watson clears protocol, Shedeur Sanders still starts
Cleveland announced that Watson has cleared the concussion protocol and remains questionable for Sunday at New Orleans. He will travel with the team, but Sanders keeps the start after taking the first-team practice reps all week, and the game plan was built around him. The Browns also promoted defensive tackle Sam Kamara to the active roster with Maliek Collins (elbow) out, and re-signed tight end Carsen Ryan to the practice squad before elevating him for the game.
Jordyn Tyson set to debut for the Saints
Tyson, the No. 8 overall pick, is expected to play his first NFL game Sunday against the Browns. The receiver hurt his right hamstring in an August 13 joint practice with Jacksonville and has not played this season. He was listed as questionable on Friday’s report but “should be good to go,” according to Jordan Schultz. Tackle Kelvin Banks Jr., cornerback Martin Emerson and lineman Asim Richards are also questionable, running back CJ Donaldson is out, and Alvin Kamara has no designation.
Kyler Murray diagnosed with a Grade 2 hamstring strain
Murray is rehabbing a Grade 2 hamstring strain that will keep him out of Monday night’s game against Buffalo, and possibly longer, Tom Pelissero reported. Carson Wentz was already named the Monday starter earlier this week, and the diagnosis suggests Murray’s absence could last more than one game. Minnesota and Buffalo file their first game statuses for Monday night later in the weekend.
Drew Lock starts through elbow tendinitis
Seattle’s replacement for the injured Sam Darnold has been playing through severe tendinitis in his throwing elbow. Lock was limited in practice all week but looked good in his reps and has no game designation for Sunday against Arizona. Jalen Milroe is the backup. Guard Quenton Nelson is also out after a minor knee procedure, as Mike Macdonald confirmed Friday.
Patriots see a path back for A.J. Brown
Brown (ankle, knee) is out again Sunday against Green Bay, along with running back TreVeyon Henderson, but the Patriots are optimistic the receiver will return “sooner rather than later, perhaps after Week 11 bye,” according to Pelissero.
Other Saturday elevations
Indianapolis elevated cornerback Johnathan Edwards and safety Trey Washington for Sunday against Dallas. Denver is expected to activate receiver Pat Bryant from injured reserve after he missed four games with an ankle injury, and to bring safety Taylor Rapp back on the practice squad and elevate him for the game at Carolina, according to Chris Tomasson.
