THE WHY BEHIND THE GAME

Privacy notice.

Independent football coverage, built on trust.

Who operates this site

DUNE ENTERTAINMENT LLC operates whynfl.com. Contact media@duneentertainment.net about privacy or personal information.

Analytics

Public pages load Google Analytics 4 (Google’s gtag.js script) for visitors who are not signed in; it is not loaded for signed-in site editors or on previews. It measures visits and how pages are used and sets first-party cookies named _ga and _ga_ followed by the measurement ID. Google receives your IP address, browser and device details, the pages you view and the page that referred you, and processes this under its own privacy policy.

Cloudflare Web Analytics also loads on public pages to measure visits and page performance. It does not set cookies.

Advertising and your choices

Public pages load Google AdSense, which can show ads, including ads placed automatically. AdSense and related Google advertising services can set or read cookies and similar identifiers and receive your IP address, browser and device details and the page you view, to show and measure ads and to detect invalid traffic. Ads can be personalized where that is permitted and depending on your choices.

The advertising script includes Google’s consent messaging. Where a consent message is shown, your choices are stored on this site and passed to Google; the consent tool sets its own cookies, such as FCCDCF and FCNEC. Where no consent message is shown, the analytics and advertising scripts load when the page opens. You can block or delete cookies in your browser settings, and manage ad personalization in Google’s ad settings.

Comments and reactions

You can comment on articles without an account. A comment contains the name you choose (or “Anonymous”) and your text; we do not ask for an email address. Comments are held for moderation before they appear. WordPress stores connection information with each comment for moderation and abuse prevention.

When you react to an article, the site sets a cookie named wn_reader containing a random identifier, so one browser counts once. It lasts one year. The site stores only a hashed form of that identifier with your reaction; it is not linked to your name or email.

Preferences saved in your browser

The My team feature and the article text-size setting are saved in your browser’s local storage. They are not sent to us, do not create an account and do not synchronize across devices. Clear this site’s data in your browser, or deselect the team, to remove them.

Delivery, security and server records

Requests to whynfl.com pass through Cloudflare, which delivers pages and protects the site and can process your IP address and request details. Our web server keeps request logs, including IP addresses, pages requested and browser details, for operation and security. These logs are kept for 14 days. Server backups are kept for 7 days.

Images, video and social posts

Fonts, player portraits, team logos and video thumbnails are served from whynfl.com. A video player loads from YouTube’s privacy-enhanced domain (youtube-nocookie.com) or from Vimeo only after you choose Load video. Photos attached to public X posts load from X’s image servers (pbs.twimg.com) only after you choose to view them. Those connections disclose your IP address to that service, which applies its own privacy practices. Links to original posts and videos leave this site.

Profile pages may list short summaries written from publicly visible post text. Those sections do not load platform embeds, media or trackers.

Email

If you email us, your message and address are used to reply and are handled by our email provider.

Signed-in administration

WordPress uses authentication cookies for people who sign in to administer the site. There is no reader account registration or newsletter signup.

Your requests

Email media@duneentertainment.net for questions, or to ask about access, correction or deletion of information connected to you, such as a comment. Please do not include unnecessary sensitive information in your message.

Social updates

Profile pages may list short summaries generated from retrieved post text on publicly visible pages. Opening an original post leaves this site. Social summary sections do not load platform embeds, media, or trackers. External services apply their own privacy policies.
