The honor. The players. The history.
Pro Bowl
The Pro Bowl is changing. Beginning with the 2026 season, the honor recognizes 88 players without an AFC–NFC game or replacement selections.
No Pro Bowl game in 2027
Players will still be selected as Pro Bowlers. The new class will be celebrated in Los Angeles, with its roster due to be revealed in late December.

What happened to the Pro Bowl?
The AFC–NFC game has been discontinued. The selection itself continues: the 2027 class will recognize performances from the 2026 NFL season, with the honor limited to the 88 players originally chosen.
That makes the February 2026 game a historical result, not a schedule for next year. A player does not need a future conference game to retain the distinction of being a Pro Bowler.
- Official class
- 88 original selections
- Replacement selections
- None under the new format
- Roster reveal
- Late December
- Celebration
- Los Angeles · exact date not announced in the reviewed update
The change followed discussions with players about the value of being chosen by their peers, coaches and fans. It puts the recognition of the selected players at the center of the event and limits that distinction to the original 88 picks. Flag football programming is also planned around the Los Angeles celebrations; it should not be mistaken for a return of the AFC–NFC Pro Bowl game.
How are Pro Bowl players selected?
Players, coaches and fans each contribute an equal share of the vote. Fan voting is one-third of that process, so leading the fan ballot alone does not determine the final class.
- PlayersOne-third of the combined vote
- CoachesOne-third of the combined vote
- FansOne-third of the combined vote
The new rules preserve that balance while removing replacement selections. The announced late-December reveal is a roster announcement, not a game date. Voting opening and closing dates for the new class are not confirmed here.
2026 Pro Bowl rosters: original picks and replacements
The 2026 game recognized the 2025 season. Its selection rules allowed replacements, so those lists need to be read differently from the new 2027 class.
The roster view keeps the original player alongside any named replacement. It marks players listed as not participating and preserves the team attached to each selection. A place on the original list does not, by itself, prove that a player took the field.
Recent Pro Bowl results, 2023–2026
The NFC won all four editions in this period, but the scoring formats were not identical. The 2023–2025 totals below include the skills competitions; the 2026 total is the flag game alone.

The move from a game to an honor
- 2023–2025
The Pro Bowl Games combined skills events with flag football. The overall conference result included both.
- February 2026
The NFC won a four-quarter flag game in San Francisco, 66–52. Those points are presented separately from the earlier combined formats.
- 2026 season / 2027 class
The conference game ends. An 88-player class, selected with equal player, coach and fan input, receives the honor without replacement selections.
Pro Bowl vs All-Pro: what is the difference?
Both recognize a player's season, but they are separate honors with separate ballots. A Pro Bowl selection does not automatically make a player an All-Pro, and the reverse should not be assumed either.
Pro Bowl
A league honor with equal voting input from players, coaches and fans. The new format recognizes an 88-player class and no longer stages an AFC–NFC game.
All-Pro
A selection of outstanding players by position across the league, rather than separate AFC and NFC game rosters. The major first- and second-team lists are chosen by media voters; separate player-voted honors also exist, so the particular award and season matter.
When comparing careers, keep the counts separate and distinguish a first-team All-Pro honor from a second-team selection. For older Pro Bowl years, also check whether the player was originally selected or added as a replacement.
Pro Bowl questions
Is the Pro Bowl canceled?
The AFC–NFC game has been discontinued. Pro Bowl selections continue, with 88 players in the official class beginning with the 2026 season.
When and where is the 2027 Pro Bowl?
An in-person celebration for the 2027 class is planned for Los Angeles during the traditional Pro Bowl weekend. An exact date, venue and full program are not confirmed in the reviewed announcement. There is no AFC–NFC game kickoff to list.
Who won the 2026 Pro Bowl?
The NFC beat the AFC 66–52 on February 3, 2026, at Moscone Center in San Francisco. See the quarters, comeback and MVPs.
Why do 2026 rosters have replacements if the new class does not?
The February 2026 event honored the 2025 season under the earlier rules. The no-replacement rule starts with the 2026 season and its 2027 class; it does not rewrite the older roster.
Is a Pro Bowl MVP the same as a season MVP?
No. The 2026 offensive and defensive Pro Bowl MVPs recognize performances in that event. They are distinct from awards for an entire NFL season.
