Thursday closed the loop on Monday night’s quarterback call and on the three questionable players for Jaguars at Ravens. Kevin O’Connell named Carson Wentz the starter against Buffalo after imaging confirmed Kyler Murray’s hamstring strain as week-to-week, Bhayshul Tuten and Travon Walker were active in Jacksonville’s 33-10 win while Nate Wiggins sat, and Kyle Hamilton left mid-game with a hip injury. Elsewhere, A.J. Brown and TreVeyon Henderson missed a second Patriots practice, Garrett Wilson’s concussion outlook worsened, and Saquon Barkley returned limited for Philadelphia.
- Vikings: Wentz starts Monday Night Football; Murray week-to-week with a hamstring strain; Max Brosmer is the backup
- Jaguars: Tuten (ankle, foot) and Walker (rib) active; both played in the 33-10 win at Baltimore
- Ravens: Wiggins inactive with a stinger/illness; Hamilton ruled out mid-game with a hip injury
- Patriots: Brown (ankle, knee), Henderson (illness) and Hunter Henry (foot) did not practice Thursday; Christian Barmore returned
- Jets: Wilson still in the concussion protocol and “not looking good”; Breece Hall practiced fully and said he will play Sunday
- Eagles: Barkley upgraded to limited; DeVonta Smith and Dontayvion Wicks did not practice again
Vikings: Wentz starts Monday, Murray week-to-week
Minnesota made official what Thursday evening’s injury roundup had flagged as trending. The club posted that O’Connell announced Wentz will start Monday and that Murray (hamstring) is considered week-to-week. Adam Schefter first reported the starter change, and Tom Pelissero added that Brosmer will back up Wentz after O’Connell said imaging showed a hamstring strain and that playing Murray early would risk making it worse.
O’Connell said the staff does not believe the strain is more than a week-to-week issue and that placing Murray on injured reserve is not under consideration. Wentz, who already filled in during Murray’s Week 1 concussion absence and started the Week 2 win at Chicago, said after Thursday’s practice that he feels comfortable in the offense and wants the unit to stay on the field. Kickoff is 8:15 p.m. ET Monday, 3:15 a.m. Tuesday in Cairo, on Monday Night Football.
Thursday night: Tuten and Walker active, Wiggins out, Hamilton hip
The three Week 9 questionables tracked in Wednesday’s full reports were settled about 90 minutes before kickoff. Jacksonville listed only four scratches — CJ Williams, Alijah Huzzie, Cam’Ron Silmon-Craig and Wesley Williams — leaving Tuten and Walker active. Tuten scored in the 33-10 win; Walker also played after a rib issue. Baltimore scratched Wiggins (stinger, illness) along with Jaylinn Hawkins (knee), Elijah Sarratt, Emery Jones Jr., Aeneas Peebles and emergency third quarterback Kedon Slovis.
During the game, the Ravens ruled Hamilton out with a hip injury. Afterward, Jesse Minter had no update; Hamilton remained on the bench, which beat writers noted as a possible positive sign, with further clarity expected once Baltimore resumes practice.
Patriots: Brown and Henderson miss another day
New England’s Thursday report kept Brown (ankle, knee) and Henderson (illness) out for a second straight session, with Henry (foot) and Marcus Jones (foot) also missing. Barmore returned to practice. Schefter highlighted the second DNPs for Brown and Henderson ahead of Sunday against Green Bay; Friday’s final designations remain the next checkpoint.
Jets and Eagles Thursday checkpoints
Rich Cimini reported the Jets’ Thursday injury report after Hall practiced fully for the first time since his injury and later said he will play Sunday at Kansas City. Cimini’s summary: it is “not looking good” for Wilson, who has been in the concussion protocol and was not seen at stretching earlier Thursday, as noted in the prior roundup.
In Philadelphia, Brooks Kubena spotted Barkley back at practice after Wednesday’s DNP for a hamstring and back, and the official report later listed him as limited. Smith (hamstring) and Wicks (ankle) were not seen again and remained on the did-not-participate list, keeping both on track to miss a third straight game unless Friday’s final report changes course.
