On Friday, Mike Macdonald said Quenton Nelson will miss Sunday against Arizona after a “minor” knee procedure that is “not IR,” that Nelson “had something that he was dealing with when he got here,” and that Grey Zabel returns to left guard with Anthony Bradford starting on the right as Drew Lock starts at quarterback.

Seattle Seahawks head coach Mike Macdonald met reporters on Friday and delivered the Week 9 game statuses before Sunday’s home game against the Arizona Cardinals. The headline was All-Pro guard Quenton Nelson, acquired from Indianapolis last week, who will not play after what Macdonald called a minor knee procedure. “Quinn’s going to be out. We’re going to get into a minor procedure,” Macdonald said. “We’re not going to put him on IR. … There’s a timeline right now that warrants not IR.”

Macdonald tied the issue to Nelson’s arrival from the Colts. “In short, he had something that he was dealing with when he got here,” Macdonald said. After the club re-checked the knee, he said the staff finished its due diligence. “Everybody agrees. It’s best to take care of it now and play the long game,” Macdonald said. “It’ll be week to week at this point.”

Line shuffle: Zabel left, Bradford right

With Nelson sidelined, Macdonald said Grey Zabel moves back to starting left guard and Anthony Bradford starts at right guard against Arizona. Drew Lock remains the starting quarterback with Sam Darnold already ruled out.

Friday outs

Macdonald also listed Charles Cross, Sam Darnold, Leonard Williams, Rashid Shaheed, Uchenna Nwosu and Brandon Pili among the players who will be out Sunday, alongside Nelson. Seattle is 4-4 and hosts the 3-5 Cardinals at Lumen Field; kickoff is 4:05 p.m. ET Sunday, which is 11:05 p.m. Cairo.

The why matters.
