The moves that matter
Broncos make a procedural cut with Rapp. Denver released Rapp on Friday, Aaron Wilson reported. Rapp is a vested veteran, so he does not go through waivers before the trade deadline, and Broncos reporter Chris Tomasson said the plan is to sign him back to the practice squad on Saturday and elevate him for Sunday’s game at the Carolina Panthers. The open roster spot is expected to go to wide receiver Pat Bryant, whom Denver designated to return from injured reserve on Wednesday.
Eagles part ways with Pierce. The league’s transaction wire shows that Philadelphia reached an injury settlement with Pierce and released him from injured reserve. Pierce is now a free agent and is free to sign with any other club.
Ravens clear a quarterback spot. Baltimore waived Reed once the Brissett trade with the Arizona Cardinals was finalized. Reed had joined the active roster on Thursday, when the Ravens put Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley on injured reserve. The trade terms and what they mean for Baltimore are in our Brissett trade story.
Seahawks shuffle Jones. Seattle released Jones on Friday afternoon and then signed him back to the practice squad. The club says that move means a new player will join the 53-man roster before Sunday’s home game against the Cardinals. Jones has nine carries for 28 yards in six games this season.
Other late Friday moves
Raiders bring Runyon back. Las Vegas waived Runyon on Thursday to make room for wide receiver Cody White. After Runyon cleared waivers, the team signed him to the practice squad on Friday and released wide receiver Phillip Dorsett to open the spot.
Waivers cleared. The league’s wire also shows that quarterback Jake Haener, waived by the New York Giants, and tight end Carsen Ryan, waived by the Cleveland Browns, both went unclaimed. Both are free agents unless their old clubs sign them to the practice squad.
What comes next
Saturday is usually when clubs file game-day elevations and activations from injured reserve. The Los Angeles Rams are expected to activate Myles Garrett before Sunday’s game at Washington, and Denver’s Rapp and Bryant moves should be official the same day. The San Francisco 49ers still had not made a roster move for Brandon Aiyuk, and the Rams had not placed cornerback Jaylen Watson on injured reserve. The trade deadline is Tuesday, November 10, at 4 p.m. ET.
