The Los Angeles Rams found their third kicker in three weeks on Tuesday evening, October 20. Veteran Brandon McManus is signing with the club after a workout, and the Rams also made it official that receiver Davante Adams and nose tackle Poona Ford are going on injured reserve. The Philadelphia Eagles cut two running backs, the Dallas Cowboys promoted safety Juanyeh Thomas and the San Francisco 49ers released defensive tackle Naquan Jones.

No trades were reported on Tuesday. The trade deadline is Tuesday, November 10, at 4 p.m. ET.

The moves that matter

McManus heads to the Rams. Tom Pelissero and Ian Rapoport reported the signing on Tuesday afternoon. McManus worked out for Los Angeles along with free agent Matt Prater. The Rams released Harrison Mevis last week, then lost Blake Grupe to a torn ACL in Sunday’s 18-16 loss to the Arizona Cardinals.

Tom Pelissero on X

McManus, 35, enters his 13th season. He kicked for the Green Bay Packers last year and made 24 of 30 field goals and 32 of 33 extra points in 14 games, but he missed two field goals and an extra point in the playoff loss to the Chicago Bears, and Green Bay moved on in the offseason. He won a Super Bowl with the Denver Broncos after the 2015 season, when he made all 10 of his field goals in the playoffs. For his career he has made 82.0 percent of his field goals.

Adams and Ford go on injured reserve. The two moves were expected after Sean McVay’s Monday injury update. Adams ruptured a hamstring muscle and is having surgery, with a six- to 10-week timeline, and Ford is out for the season with a ruptured triceps. Players on injured reserve must miss at least four games. Our Rams injury story has McVay’s full list.

Ian Rapoport on X

Eagles trim the backfield. Philadelphia waived Jaydon Blue, a 2025 fifth-round pick out of Texas who had been promoted from the practice squad on Saturday, and moved Carson Steele to waived/injured after he hurt his shoulder in the first quarter of Sunday’s loss to the Carolina Panthers. The Eagles brought veteran Elijah Mitchell to the practice squad and released center James Brockermeyer and running back Ian Wheeler from the unit.

Field Yates noted that the moves leave Saquon Barkley and Dameon Pierce as the only running backs on the 53-man roster, which could be a sign that Barkley is ready to return for Sunday’s game against the Cowboys. Our Eagles injury story has more on Steele’s injury.

Cowboys promote Thomas. Dallas signed safety Juanyeh Thomas to the active roster after using all three of his practice squad elevations, as Todd Archer noted, and waived cornerback Caelen Carson, a 2024 fifth-round pick. The Cowboys also added quarterback Kyle Trask to the practice squad. Trask, a 2021 second-round pick of the Tampa Bay Buccaneers, spent training camp with the Panthers and had been a free agent since late August.

Greenlaw back, Jones out in San Francisco. The league reinstated linebacker Dre Greenlaw on Tuesday after his one-game suspension for head-butting Seattle’s Ernest Jones IV, and the 49ers released veteran defensive tackle Naquan Jones. Pelissero reported that San Francisco needed a roster spot. Jones played in three games and made two tackles; as a vested veteran he is a free agent right away. Greenlaw is in line to play Sunday at Atlanta.

San Francisco 49ers on X

Giants fill one spot. New York promoted linebacker Trace Ford to the 53-man roster after he played in three games as a practice squad call-up, with seven tackles. The Giants left the second roster spot opened by the Harris and Jihad Ward releases empty for now and signed receiver Jason Brownlee to the practice squad.

Practice squad veterans. Indianapolis signed receiver Mecole Hardman Jr. and punter Thomas Morstead to its practice squad, Pittsburgh brought back receiver Marquez Valdes-Scantling the same way and Tennessee re-signed defensive back Erick Hallett after he cleared waivers on Monday.

Waiver wire

Washington linebacker Austin Keys went unclaimed when Monday’s waiver claims were processed at 4 p.m. ET on Tuesday, so he is now a free agent. Claims on the players waived on Tuesday, including Blue, Carson, Kansas City’s Cam Jones, Houston’s Jamal Hill and Atlanta’s Bralen Trice, are due at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday.

What comes next

The New England Patriots and the Bears play on Thursday night in Chicago, so their practice squad elevations come first, on Wednesday or Thursday. Most other clubs will open more practice windows for players on injured reserve once they return to the field on Wednesday.

The why matters.
