Tuesday, October 20, started with a release that came with an unusual explanation. The Tennessee Titans cut defensive tackle Jordan Elliott after reviewing what the club called an incident at its facility last week. The New York Giants moved on from running back Najee Harris and linebacker Jihad Ward, the Miami Dolphins changed kickers and the Cincinnati Bengals promoted safety Russ Yeast.

No trades have been reported. The trade deadline is Tuesday, November 10, at 4 p.m. ET.

The moves that matter

Titans release Elliott. Tennessee announced the move in a short statement. “On Thursday, October 15, there was an incident at our team facility involving Jordan Elliott,” it read. “Following our review of the incident, we have made the decision to release Elliott from our roster.” The club said it would have no further comment.

Elliott played in the first five games of the season and had 11 tackles. He missed practice last Friday for what the team called personal reasons and was inactive for Sunday’s 26-20 win at Indianapolis. He signed a two-year deal with the Titans as a free agent in the offseason after stints with the Cleveland Browns, who drafted him in the third round in 2020, and the San Francisco 49ers.

Giants cut Harris and Ward. Harris started Sunday’s loss to New Orleans, had four carries for two yards and then criticized the four-back rotation. Ward had one tackle in two games after coming back from the Minnesota Vikings’ practice squad. Our Najee Harris story has what both he and John Harbaugh said.

A new kicker in Miami. The Dolphins are releasing Riley Patterson, Adam Schefter reported. Reports on Tuesday also said Miami is bringing back veteran Zane Gonzalez, who was with the club in training camp, once he passes a physical. Patterson kicked a 29-yard field goal in the Week 5 loss to Cincinnati.

Yeast moves up in Cincinnati. The Bengals used the roster spot that opened when tight end Tanner Hudson went on injured reserve on Monday to sign Yeast off the practice squad. Yeast was elevated for the Week 4 and Week 5 games and has played 36 career games for the Los Angeles Rams, Carolina Panthers and Houston Texans. The Bengals also added rookie tight end Josh Kattus, whom they waived in August, and linebacker Emany Johnson to the practice squad, and released rookie safety Isaiah Nwokobia.

Still to come on Tuesday

Rams kicker. Los Angeles was set to work out Brandon McManus and Matt Prater on Tuesday after Blake Grupe tore his ACL, and Sean McVay said the club would have a kicker “in the next day or two.” Our Rams injury story has the rest of their list.

Waiver results. Claims on players waived Monday, including Washington linebacker Austin Keys, are awarded at 4 p.m. ET.

Injury moves. Washington is waiting on Terry McLaurin’s MRI; our McLaurin story has the latest. Indianapolis said Alec Pierce will not return to practice this week, as covered in our Colts injury update.

The why matters.
