The Los Angeles Rams lost another starter to injured reserve on Wednesday, October 21. Defensive lineman Kobie Turner went on the list with a groin injury, the fourth Rams player placed there this week. The Atlanta Falcons opened the practice window for cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr., the New York Giants filled their open roster spot with lineman Josh Sills and started Paulson Adebo’s return, and the Pittsburgh Steelers released veteran safety Rayshawn Jenkins.

The San Francisco 49ers also brought defensive tackle Naquan Jones back to their practice squad a day after releasing him. No trades were reported on Wednesday. The trade deadline is Tuesday, November 10, at 4 p.m. ET.

The moves that matter

Turner joins the Rams’ injured list. Los Angeles put Turner on injured reserve with a groin injury, so he will miss at least four games. Receiver Davante Adams, nose tackle Poona Ford and kicker Blake Grupe went on the list earlier in the week. To fill the spot, the Rams promoted outside linebacker Darryl Peterson III from the practice squad. Peterson has played in one game this season, for three special teams snaps. The club also signed nose tackle Jalen Hunt to the practice squad. Our Rams injury story has Sean McVay’s full update.

Terrell’s window opens in Atlanta. Head coach Kevin Stefanski announced that the Falcons are designating Terrell to return. He has been out since a groin injury in Week 2, and the team now has 21 days to add him back to the 53-man roster. C.J. Henderson, who replaced him, hurt his groin in Week 5, and Terrell’s younger brother, rookie Avieon Terrell, started on the outside in Sunday’s loss to the Chicago Bears. The Falcons host the unbeaten 49ers on Sunday.

Giants fill their second spot. New York signed offensive lineman Josh Sills off the Indianapolis Colts’ practice squad, filling the second roster spot opened by the Najee Harris and Jihad Ward releases. Sills has been in the league since 2022 but has not started a game. The Giants also opened the 21-day practice window for cornerback Paulson Adebo, who has missed five games with a knee injury since getting hurt in the season opener against the Dallas Cowboys. Adebo carries the team’s largest salary cap charge this season.

Steelers cut Jenkins. Pittsburgh released Jenkins, a 10th-year safety who signed in the offseason. He played in all six games with one start and had 15 tackles, but he did not play on defense in Week 6 against the Tampa Bay Buccaneers. Jenkins, a 2017 fourth-round pick of the Los Angeles Chargers, has also played for the Jacksonville Jaguars, Seattle Seahawks and Cleveland Browns, with 93 starts and 11 interceptions in 145 career games.

Jones returns to San Francisco. One day after releasing Naquan Jones from the active roster, the 49ers re-signed the defensive tackle to their practice squad, as Tom Pelissero first reported. Because Jones is a vested veteran, he did not have to go through waivers. To make room, the 49ers released linebacker Eugene Asante, who joined the practice squad on October 15.

More practice windows and practice squad moves. The Denver Broncos designated rookie running back Jonah Coleman, a fourth-round pick who has been out since a high ankle sprain in Week 2, to return from injured reserve, Chris Tomasson reported. Houston signed veteran linebacker Kenneth Murray Jr., a 2020 first-round pick, to its practice squad and moved running back Jawhar Jordan to the practice squad injured list. Washington re-signed linebacker Austin Keys to its practice squad after he cleared waivers on Tuesday and added tight end Quentin Moore, and Cleveland signed defensive tackle Eric Johnson II, a 2022 fifth-round pick of the Colts, to its practice squad in place of defensive end Nadame Tucker.

Waiver wire

Claims on the players waived on Tuesday, including Philadelphia running back Jaydon Blue, Dallas cornerback Caelen Carson, Kansas City linebacker Cam Jones, Houston linebacker Jamal Hill and Atlanta’s Bralen Trice, were due at 4 p.m. ET on Wednesday, along with claims on Miami’s Storm Duck and Andre Jones Jr. The results had not been announced by early Wednesday evening. Any player who goes unclaimed becomes a free agent.

What comes next

The New England Patriots and the Bears play on Thursday night in Chicago, and the Patriots expect to make roster moves on Thursday after ruling out five players, including both starting guards. Washington is on its bye and has not yet moved receiver Terry McLaurin to injured reserve after his season-ending knee injury.
