The Los Angeles Rams will open offensive lineman Keagen Trost’s 21-day practice window this week and start David Quessenberry at left tackle against the Arizona Cardinals, head coach Sean McVay said Tuesday, while repeating that the club will not start Myles Garrett’s return clock before Sunday.
Trost has been on injured reserve since the Aug. 30 cutdown after a hamstring injury on the first field-goal protection snap of the Aug. 15 preseason game against the Kansas City Chiefs. Opening the window starts a 21-day period in which Los Angeles can activate him to the 53-man roster. McVay said the expectation is that Trost will be back on the practice field this week.
Quessenberry fills in for Jackson
Quessenberry’s start is tied to left tackle Alaric Jackson’s two-game suspension for striking Buffalo Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb after Monday night’s overtime loss. Jackson plans to appeal. McVay said Quessenberry will take that spot while the appeal plays out.
“DQ will take that spot, and then that’ll also open up the opportunity for us to start Trost’s clock with the expectation of him being back out there this week,” McVay said.
Garrett stays shut for Week 6
Asked whether the Rams would open Garrett’s practice window this week, McVay said, “We will not, not this week.” That matches what he said Saturday, when he described Garrett as making good progress after mid-September knee surgery but not ready for the clock. Earlier Garrett update. Garrett has been on injured reserve since Sept. 17.
The Rams also changed kickers Tuesday, releasing Harrison Mevis and signing Blake Grupe. Mevis and Grupe move. Los Angeles is 2-3 after the 37-34 overtime loss to Buffalo and hosts the Cardinals on Sunday at SoFi Stadium.
