The Los Angeles Rams have officially signed kicker Blake Grupe off the New York Jets’ practice squad and released Harrison Mevis, Adam Schefter reported Wednesday. The move comes after Mevis missed both of his field-goal attempts in Monday night’s 37-34 overtime loss to the Buffalo Bills.
Mike Garafolo and Ian Rapoport first reported the change Tuesday, with Garafolo describing it as a response to the overtime blocked field goal against Buffalo.
Why the Rams moved on
Mevis was 5 of 9 on field goals through five games in 2026, a 55.6 percent clip, while making all of his extra points. Against Buffalo he missed both tries, and the blocked kick in overtime helped seal the Rams’ drop to 2-3.
Grupe, 27, spent three seasons with the New Orleans Saints and a brief 2025 stint with the Indianapolis Colts. Across 50 career games through 2025 he made 86 of 105 field goals (81.9 percent), including an 87.1 percent mark in 2024 and a perfect 11-for-11 in five games with Indianapolis in 2025.
Path from Jets practice squad
The Jets claimed Grupe off waivers after final cuts, then moved him to the practice squad without him kicking in a regular-season game for New York. He now joins Los Angeles under special teams coordinator Bubba Ventrone, who also has Colts ties from earlier stops.
The Rams’ next game is against the Arizona Cardinals. Grupe’s debut timetable will depend on how quickly the club installs him as the primary kicker after Mevis’s release.
