Tom Pelissero reported the ban is official; Sean McVay said Jackson will appeal, and barring a win he misses Arizona and Las Vegas.

The NFL has suspended Los Angeles Rams starting left tackle Alaric Jackson two games without pay for striking Buffalo Bills linebacker Bradley Chubb in the face after Monday night’s overtime game at SoFi Stadium.

Tom Pelissero reported that the penalty is now official. Barring a successful appeal, Jackson will miss the Rams’ home game against the Arizona Cardinals and their road game against the Las Vegas Raiders.

The league said that after the game, as players were shaking hands and exchanging jerseys, Jackson struck Chubb in the face after a brief confrontation, violating Rule 12, Section 3, Article 1 on sportsmanship. Television cameras caught the exchange while postgame interviews were still underway. Teammates quickly pulled the two apart. Chubb later described the moment as “just emotions.”

Adam Schefter had reported earlier Tuesday that Jackson was expected to draw a two-game ban for the punch, and that any appeal would be heard by one of the hearing officers jointly appointed by the NFL and the NFLPA: Derrick Brooks, Jordy Nelson, Ron Rivera, or James Thrash.

What McVay said

Rams coach Sean McVay said Tuesday that Jackson plans to appeal. If the suspension stands, Los Angeles is expected to start David Quessenberry at left tackle in Jackson’s place. Jackson, 28, has started every game this season and 56 of 62 since joining the Rams as an undrafted free agent out of Iowa in 2021.

This is Jackson’s second NFL suspension. He sat two games in 2024 for a personal-conduct violation. He was also arrested in June on suspicion of felony domestic violence; that case was assigned a prefiling diversion, and the league has not announced any personal-conduct discipline tied to it.

What comes next

Buffalo won the Monday night game 37-34 in overtime. The Rams host the Cardinals in Week 6, then visit the Raiders in Week 7. Jackson’s appeal will decide whether he is available for either of those games.

The why matters.
