Maye in control from the start
Maye completed 26 of 34 passes for 374 yards with no interceptions. He opened the scoring with a 35-yard touchdown to DeMario Douglas less than four minutes into the game, and after Kirk Cousins answered with a 13-yard scoring pass to Brock Bowers, Rhamondre Stevenson’s 5-yard run put New England back in front.
The Patriots took control just before halftime, when Maye found Hunter Henry for an 11-yard touchdown with 24 seconds left in the second quarter to make it 21-7. He opened the third quarter with a 34-yard touchdown pass to Kyle Williams, then ran one in from 3 yards out late in the period for a 35-10 lead. Andy Borregales added a 28-yard field goal, and Maye’s 8-yard throw to Douglas with 6:06 left completed his afternoon.
Williams caught all 3 passes thrown to him for 91 yards. Douglas had 4 catches for 65 yards and two scores, and Efton Chism III and tight end Eli Raridon each caught 5 passes for 57 yards. Stevenson ran 13 times for 64 yards, and Corey Kiner added 52 yards on 6 carries.
A costly day for New England’s line
The lopsided score came at a price. Left tackle Will Campbell hurt his knee and running back TreVeyon Henderson injured an ankle in the first half; both were listed as questionable to return and went to the locker room, and Caleb Lomu took over at left tackle. Read more on the Patriots’ injuries. The Patriots ruled both players out midway through the third quarter.
Las Vegas lost defensive tackle Tonka Hemingway to a stinger that affected his neck. Cousins finished 19 of 28 for 243 yards and a touchdown before Fernando Mendoza played late in the game and went 6 of 8 for 48 yards. Bowers caught 8 passes for 110 yards, but Ashton Jeanty, cleared to play after a pregame workout, managed only 27 yards on 10 carries. Dylan Laube scored the Raiders’ last touchdown on a 2-yard run, and Matt Gay made one of his two field-goal attempts.
New England’s defense sacked Cousins three times, two of them by Elijah Ponder.
