Jaylen Warren took a pass 80 yards for a touchdown and later broke a 50-yard run for another, and the Pittsburgh Steelers beat the Indianapolis Colts 34-22 at Acrisure Stadium on Sunday, October 11, despite five field goals from Colts kicker Spencer Shrader.

Pittsburgh moved to 3-2 with the win, while Indianapolis fell to 2-3. The Colts kept the game within one score into the fourth quarter, but they reached the end zone only once all afternoon and had to settle for field goals on five other trips.

Warren and Rodgers make the big plays

Shrader opened the scoring with a 57-yard kick midway through the first quarter. Twelve seconds of game clock later, Aaron Rodgers found Warren, who went 80 yards for a 7-3 lead. Shrader replied from 56 yards, and Rodgers hit Pat Freiermuth from a yard out early in the second quarter.

Indianapolis drew within 14-13 when tight end Tyler Warren ran in from a yard out with 7:43 left in the half, and Chris Boswell’s 48-yard field goal with 21 seconds left sent Pittsburgh to the break up 17-13. Jaylen Warren’s 50-yard touchdown run with 7:06 left in the third quarter restored an eight-point lead.

The Colts got within 24-22 on Shrader’s 28-yard field goal with 11:42 to play. Rodgers then led a drive that ended with a 17-yard touchdown pass to Freiermuth at the 6:35 mark, and Boswell made it a two-score game from 54 yards with 3:43 left. The Colts’ last real chance ended with a turnover on downs.

Warren finished with 101 rushing yards on 15 carries and 87 receiving yards on 6 catches, 188 yards from scrimmage in all. Rodgers completed 22 of 31 passes for 235 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions, and Germie Bernard caught 6 passes for 80 yards. Freiermuth had 5 receptions for 44 yards and both of his scores.

Colts move the ball, but stall

Daniel Jones threw 44 passes, completing 24 for 267 yards, without a touchdown or an interception. Indianapolis converted only 4 of 15 third downs, and Jonathan Taylor was held to 45 yards on 15 carries. Tyler Warren led the Colts with 7 catches for 83 yards, and Keenan Allen, who was cleared to play after being listed as questionable, had 5 catches for 45 yards.

Shrader made all five of his field-goal attempts, from 57, 56, 22, 40 and 28 yards, and scored 16 of the Colts’ 22 points. Linebacker Payton Wilson led Pittsburgh with 10 tackles, two of them for a loss.

Pittsburgh won despite losing two receivers during the game. The Steelers ruled out Roman Wilson with a finger injury and Ben Skowronek with a calf injury, leaving Rodgers with a short list of targets for the rest of the afternoon.

What comes next

The Steelers visit the Tampa Bay Buccaneers on Sunday, October 18, at 1 p.m. EDT. The Colts host the Tennessee Titans at the same time. The full box score is in the Colts-Steelers Game Center.
