New Orleans will add its greatest quarterback to the Superdome's Ring of Honor on Sunday, two months after his first-ballot enshrinement in Canton. He also receives his Hall of Fame ring during the ceremony.

Drew Brees becomes the ninth member of the New Orleans Saints Ring of Honor on Sunday, October 11, when the club inducts him at halftime of its home game against the Minnesota Vikings at Caesars Superdome.

The ceremony doubles as a second celebration of his Hall of Fame summer. Brees will also be handed the Ring of Excellence that every Hall of Fame inductee receives, roughly two months after he was enshrined in Canton, Ohio, on August 8 as a first-ballot member of the Class of 2026. The Saints set the date in an announcement on August 11, timing the honor to fall during the franchise’s 60th season.

The franchise’s defining player

Brees arrived in New Orleans in 2006, a year after Hurricane Katrina, and stayed for the final 15 seasons of his career. Over that stretch he rewrote the club’s passing record book and, in February 2010, delivered the only Super Bowl title the Saints have won, beating the Indianapolis Colts 31-17 in Super Bowl XLIV and taking home the game’s Most Valuable Player award.

The front office has never been shy about where he ranks. General manager Mickey Loomis described him as “the greatest Saint ever” when the induction was announced, and owner Gayle Benson said the team was “thrilled to welcome Drew into this distinguished group.”

His Hall of Fame speech in August leaned heavily on two relationships: the one with his longtime head coach, Sean Payton, and the one with the city of New Orleans. Sunday’s ceremony returns him to the building where both were forged.

The company he joins

The Saints Ring of Honor is a small club. Brees joins former owner Tom Benson (inducted in 2018), kicker Morten Andersen (2016), guard Jahri Evans (2024), linebacker Rickey Jackson (2013), quarterback Archie Manning (2013), linebacker Sam Mills (2021), tackle William Roaf (2013) and defensive end Will Smith (2019). Evans, the most recent addition before Brees, blocked for him for most of his New Orleans tenure.

Brees is the second quarterback in the ring, alongside Manning, whose years with the club came long before the franchise’s playoff breakthroughs. Five of the nine members are also enshrined in Canton.

What comes next

Kickoff against Minnesota is set for 1:00 p.m. EDT, with the Ring of Honor ceremony during the halftime break. Follow the game in the Vikings at Saints Game Center. New Orleans travels to face the New York Giants on Sunday, October 18, at 1:00 p.m. EDT, while the Vikings are idle next week before hosting the Indianapolis Colts on Sunday, October 25.

The why matters.
