The San Francisco 49ers announced on Saturday, October 10, that defensive end Mykel Williams has been activated from the reserve/physically unable to perform list, clearing the 2025 first-round pick to make his season debut in Week 5 against the Seattle Seahawks.
Williams tore his ACL midway through his rookie year and opened this season on the PUP list, a designation that guaranteed he would miss at least the first four games. San Francisco opened his practice window in late September, and Saturday’s move confirms the team believes he is ready to play.
His return comes at a useful moment for the 49ers’ pass rush. Nick Bosa has been sidelined by a calf injury, and San Francisco signed veteran Matt Judon during his absence. Because Bosa tore his own ACL early in the 2025 season, he and Williams have spent little time on the field together.
There were also updates on two injured wide receivers, reported earlier this week:
- Mike Evans, who suffered a rib strain in the Week 3 win over Arizona and left the field on a cart, was able to practice late last week. As of October 4 he was pushing to return, though his Week 5 status has not been confirmed.
- Christian Kirk opened the season on injured reserve with a calf injury. Head coach Kyle Shanahan said, as of October 4, that he hopes the 49ers can open Kirk’s practice window in roughly two weeks.
San Francisco’s receiving corps has been hit hard: rookie De’Zhaun Stribling and veteran Demarcus Robinson were recently placed on injured reserve, and Ricky Pearsall is out for the season after PCL surgery. Even so, the 49ers have won their first three games, two of them in the division.
