Updated October 10, 6:35 p.m. EDT: added background on Patrick’s career.

The New York Jets activated receiver Tim Patrick from injured reserve on Saturday, October 10, and he carries no injury designation for Sunday’s home game against the Cleveland Browns, putting him in line for his first appearance with the team.

The move came three days after New York opened Patrick’s 21-day practice window on Wednesday, October 7. He had been out since a groin injury suffered in the first week of regular-season practice, not long after he signed with the Jets in March.

The corresponding moves

To clear a roster spot, the Jets waived receiver Jamaal Pritchett. They also elevated linebacker Jaden Keller from the practice squad for the game.

Patrick’s return gives coach Aaron Glenn a needed veteran target. Adonai Mitchell has been ruled out again with a finger injury, and running back Breece Hall and guard Dylan Parham will also miss Sunday’s game. On Friday, Glenn had said Patrick would practice again, while leaving his status for Cleveland undecided.

How the week unfolded

The Jets listed Patrick as a full participant on Wednesday’s first report, though that day was a walkthrough, so the practice entries were estimates rather than a record of a full-speed session. Tight end Mason Taylor, who has a thumb injury, received the same full-participation estimate.

What Patrick brings

Patrick caught 15 passes for 187 yards and three touchdowns in 16 games for Jacksonville last season, with three starts. In 2024 he had 33 receptions for 394 yards and three scores in 16 games for Detroit.

Patrick, 32, entered the league undrafted and built his career in Denver, where he became a regular starter before torn knee and Achilles injuries cost him the 2022 and 2023 seasons. His stops in Detroit and Jacksonville showed he could still contribute as a reliable possession receiver.

What comes next

The Browns, 3–1 after a 27–24 win over Pittsburgh, visit the Jets at 1:00 p.m. EDT on Sunday, October 11, at MetLife Stadium; follow it on the Game Center. New York then travels to New England on Sunday, October 18.
