Lamar Jackson was back on the practice field on Wednesday. The Baltimore Ravens quarterback, who has not played since he sprained his ankle against the Tennessee Titans on October 4, jogged out at the start of practice as Baltimore began preparing for Sunday’s game in Buffalo. The Detroit Lions brought safety Kerby Joseph back to practice for the first time in a year, the Kansas City Chiefs said Rashee Rice would practice, and the Washington Commanders put Terry McLaurin on injured reserve.
- Ravens: Lamar Jackson practicing for the first time this week; rookie running back Adam Randall back from injured reserve
- Lions: Kerby Joseph’s 21-day practice window opens; Amon-Ra St. Brown and Ennis Rakestraw Jr. limited to the walk-through
- Chiefs: Andy Reid says everyone practices, including Rashee Rice and right tackle Jaylon Moore
- Broncos: Jaylen Waddle aggravated his chest injury last week, and his status for Sunday depends on practice
- Jets: Breece Hall and Braelon Allen limited, David Bailey out of practice with a groin injury
- Commanders: Terry McLaurin on injured reserve, Jer’Zhan Newton back at practice, Stefon Diggs resting
Lamar Jackson is back at practice
Jamison Hensley reported that Jackson jogged onto the field for the start of Wednesday’s practice and warmed up with starting center Cam Jurgens. It is the first practice of the week for Baltimore, and the official report later on Wednesday will show whether he was a full or limited participant. “We’ll see later today on the injury report whether he’s a full participant,” wrote Ryan Mink, who covers the team for its website.
Jackson has missed three straight games, and the Ravens went 1-2 with Tyler Huntley at quarterback. Last week he practiced on a limited basis every day and was listed as questionable, but Baltimore ruled him out the next day and he was inactive for the 35-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals. Ian Rapoport said on Tuesday that he expects Jackson to play against the Bills. Jesse Minter speaks after practice.
Morgan Adsit reported that safeties Kyle Hamilton and Jaylinn Hawkins (knee), linebacker Roquan Smith, defensive lineman Calais Campbell, who usually gets a veteran rest day, and rookie guard Vega Ioane (knee) were not seen on the field during the open part of practice. Rookie running back Adam Randall, a fourth-round pick who went on injured reserve before Week 1, returned to practice, which opens his 21-day window. Our Ravens injury update from Sunday is here.
Kerby Joseph returns to the Lions’ practice field
Joseph has not played since he hurt his knee last October. He started this season on the reserve/physically unable to perform list, and Detroit now has 21 days to add him to the active roster. Dan Campbell said the biggest hurdle was getting strength in the injured leg back to the level of the other one. “He’s passed every test to this point, this is the next step,” Campbell said. “We’ll kind of progress him as we go each week, to get him back in the flow. It’ll be great to get him back with the guys. This is a step in the right direction.”
Brian Branch made his season debut in Sunday’s 20-17 win over the Green Bay Packers, so Detroit could have both of its starting safeties together for the first time since 2024. Campbell also said receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown and cornerback Ennis Rakestraw Jr., who both hurt their ankles against Green Bay, are doing well. They may take part in the walk-through part of practice but will sit out the rest, with the plan for both to practice on Thursday. St. Brown had nine catches for 153 yards on Sunday. The Lions host the Minnesota Vikings this week.
Rashee Rice and the Chiefs practice in full
Andy Reid said everyone on the Chiefs’ roster would practice on Wednesday. That includes Rice, who has missed the past few games with a hamstring injury and is also listed with a knee issue, and right tackle Jaylon Moore. Kansas City faces the Denver Broncos on Sunday.
Jaylen Waddle’s chest injury
On the Denver side, Rapoport reported that Waddle aggravated his earlier chest injury on a reverse last week and that his availability for the Chiefs game will depend on how practice goes. Rachel Vigil reported that Waddle is expected to be listed as questionable, that the injury is near his left shoulder and that there is hope he can play. Defensive lineman Zach Allen (hamstring), cornerback Pat Surtain II (ankle) and safety Talanoa Hufanga (ankle) are the other names to watch on Denver’s first report of the week.
Breece Hall limited for the Jets
Aaron Glenn said running backs Breece Hall (quadriceps) and Braelon Allen (ankle) would be limited on Wednesday. Allen has carried the Jets’ backfield with Hall out, with at least 14 carries in four straight games. Edge rusher David Bailey will not practice because of a groin injury.
Terry McLaurin goes on injured reserve
The Commanders formally moved McLaurin to injured reserve on Wednesday. He tore his patellar tendon earlier this month, an injury that ends his season. Washington promoted receiver Van Jefferson from the practice squad and signed outside linebacker Kyle Kennard to the practice squad. The team also opened the 21-day practice window for defensive tackle Jer’Zhan Newton, who tore his pectoral muscle in the preseason, and Dan Quinn said Stefon Diggs will not practice on Wednesday but should be a full participant on Thursday. Washington plays the Philadelphia Eagles on Sunday night.
Around the league on Wednesday
- Browns: Todd Monken said edge rusher Jared Verse will not practice because of swelling in his knee, but he does not expect Verse to miss Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers.
- Titans: receiver Carnell Tate (shoulder) will not practice, and running back Tyjae Spears was held out for maintenance, along with punter Tommy Townsend.
- Patriots: Mike Vrabel said guard Greg Van Roten and safety Dell Pettus, both eligible to come off injured reserve this week, will not practice yet.
- Falcons: Kevin Stefanski said receiver Olamide Zaccheaus will practice, while a few other players are held out until Thursday.
- Cardinals: rookie running back Jeremiyah Love is practicing again after missing two games with an ankle injury.
