Baltimore lost its best interior lineman in the first quarter of the 35-13 defeat to Cincinnati, and its defensive leader briefly went to the sideline with a knee problem. The Ravens, 4-3, are at Buffalo next.

The Baltimore Ravens’ offensive line took another hit on Sunday. Rookie right guard Vega Ioane hurt his knee late in the first quarter of the 35-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals and did not come back, and the team has not yet said how serious the injury is.

Baltimore first listed Ioane as questionable to return, then ruled him out early in the second half. Second-year guard Emery Jones Jr. finished the game in his place. The team did not say how the injury happened, and a timeline is expected once Ioane is examined in the coming days.

Losing Ioane would sting more than most. The first-round pick has been the Ravens’ most reliable interior lineman this season, and Sunday was his first game back at right guard, the position he knows best, after three straight starts at center, a position he had hardly played before. Baltimore went to him there because three centers had already gone down with significant injuries.

Roquan Smith back after a knee scare

The defense had its own scare in the second half. Linebacker Roquan Smith went to the sideline with a knee injury and was listed as questionable to return, but he was back on the field within minutes. Whether the knee affects his practice week is the next thing to watch.

Baltimore was already short-handed before kickoff. Quarterback Lamar Jackson missed a third straight game with his ankle injury, safety Jaylinn Hawkins (knee) and defensive tackle Broderick Washington Jr. were ruled out, and outside linebacker Tavius Robinson has already been lost for the season with a pectoral injury.

Where the Ravens stand

The loss, built on a second-half collapse after Baltimore had led 13-0, drops the Ravens to 4-3 overall and 0-2 inside the AFC North. Wednesday’s first injury report of the week will show whether Ioane and Smith can practice, and whether Jackson is any closer to a return. Every designation is tracked on our NFL injury report, and Sunday’s numbers are in the Game Center.

What comes next

The Ravens visit the Buffalo Bills on Sunday, November 1, at 1:00 p.m. EST. Cincinnati hosts the Tennessee Titans at the same time.

The why matters.
