The first injury reports of Week 7 brought a mixed Wednesday around the league. Lamar Jackson was missing from Baltimore Ravens practice again, Baker Mayfield threw with a glove on his right hand in his first practice in nearly a month, and the Cleveland Browns got defensive tackle Mason Graham and running back Quinshon Judkins back on the field.
- Ravens: QB Lamar Jackson (ankle) not at practice; T.J. Tampa (knee) designated to return from injured reserve
- Buccaneers: QB Baker Mayfield (right thumb) practiced for the first time since September 27
- Browns: DT Mason Graham (knee, ankle), RB Quinshon Judkins (ankle) and RB Dylan Sampson (knee) practiced
- Saints: WR Jordyn Tyson (hamstring) will not practice this week; K Daniel Carlson (personal) and G Cesar Ruiz (knee) sat out
- Titans: LB Dorian Mausi designated to return; John Franklin-Myers and Tyjae Spears did not practice
- Jets: RB Breece Hall did not practice; WR Adonai Mitchell (finger) limited
- Practice windows opened: Falcons CB A.J. Terrell Jr., Panthers LB Bam Martin-Scott, Dolphins LB Kyle Louis
Lamar Jackson is still not practicing
Jackson was not seen at the start of Wednesday’s practice, Adam Schefter reported. The two-time MVP hurt his ankle on October 4 and has missed the last two games. Baltimore hosts the Cincinnati Bengals on Sunday, so Thursday and Friday will decide whether he has a chance to play in Week 7.
Jackson was one of only three Ravens missing during the part of practice open to reporters, along with defensive lineman Calais Campbell, who usually gets a veteran rest day on Wednesdays, and outside linebacker Tavius Robinson. Receiver Rashod Bateman (shoulder) practiced in a non-contact jersey, and center Cam Jurgens (concussion), Matt Hibner (hand) and Broderick Washington (ankle) were also on the field. Defensive back T.J. Tampa (knee) returned and was designated to return from injured reserve, which opens his 21-day practice window.
Baker Mayfield practices with a glove
Mayfield practiced for the first time since he dislocated his right thumb on September 27. He wore a white glove on his throwing hand for the whole session, and Todd Bowles noted that Mayfield has worn a glove in a game once before. Bowles called the first practice “encouraging” and said Mayfield is “coming along fine,” but the staff will see how the thumb responds on Thursday before going any further.
For now, the plan is still for rookie Jalon Daniels to start on Sunday when the 1-5 Buccaneers visit the Carolina Panthers in their first division game of the season.
Mason Graham and Quinshon Judkins are back for Cleveland
Graham has missed the last two games with knee and ankle injuries, but he practiced on Wednesday, and Todd Monken said there was a “pretty good chance” he plays on Sunday at the Tennessee Titans. “He was frustrated, he wanted to go,” Monken said. Judkins (ankle), who sat out last week’s win over the Ravens, and Dylan Sampson (knee) also practiced, and Monken was optimistic about both.
The Browns did not expect six players to practice: defensive tackles Kalia Davis (quad) and Mike Hall Jr. (ankle), safety Grant Delpit (concussion, shoulder), linebacker Carson Schwesinger (ankle), and offensive linemen Elgton Jenkins (knee) and Teven Jenkins (back).
Jordyn Tyson’s debut has to wait again
Saints general manager Mickey Loomis said the first-round receiver will not practice this week as New Orleans gets ready for Sunday’s game against the Pittsburgh Steelers in Paris. Tyson has not played since a hamstring injury in mid-August. “He is improving and we feel like we’re getting closer,” Loomis said, but he did not give a timeline. With the Saints’ bye coming next, Week 9 is the earliest he could make his debut.
Kellen Moore said kicker Daniel Carlson, whose wife is expecting a child, and guard Cesar Ruiz (knee) did not practice. Carlson is still in the United States but is expected to travel to Paris soon.
Around the league
In Tennessee, linebacker Dorian Mausi was designated to return from injured reserve before the Browns game, while edge rusher John Franklin-Myers and running back Tyjae Spears did not practice. The New York Jets held out running back Breece Hall, though he has not been ruled out for Sunday against the Miami Dolphins, and receiver Adonai Mitchell was limited as he works back from finger surgery.
Three more teams opened 21-day practice windows. The Atlanta Falcons designated cornerback A.J. Terrell Jr. (groin) to return before they host the San Francisco 49ers, the Carolina Panthers opened the window for linebacker Bam Martin-Scott, who has been on injured reserve all season, and the Dolphins did the same for linebacker Kyle Louis. Miami’s Darrell Baker remains on the physically unable to perform list, and his window will not open this week. Carolina also promoted running back Anthony Tyus from the practice squad to the 53-man roster.
What comes next
The Patriots and Bears release their final injury report with game designations on Wednesday afternoon before Thursday night’s game in Chicago. The 49ers, Packers, Seahawks and the rest of the league’s late practices report later on Wednesday. The biggest questions for Thursday’s reports are whether Jackson returns to the field in any form and how Mayfield’s thumb responds after his first day back.
