Thursday and Friday, October 15 and 16, were the quiet end of a busy Week 6 wire, but they still moved a few names that mattered. The San Francisco 49ers put pass rusher Ogbo Okoronkwo back on the 53-man roster, the Detroit Lions used their bye to move three injured players to injured reserve, and the Indianapolis Colts cut veteran receiver Darius Slayton. Denver and Seattle made their elevations for Thursday night’s game, which the Broncos won 17-14 in overtime.

No trades were processed on either day.

The moves that matter

Okoronkwo back on the 53. San Francisco took Okoronkwo off the active roster on October 9 to make room for first-round pass rusher Mykel Williams, then kept him on the practice squad, which is why Matthew Judon was released. Six days later he was promoted again. The 31-year-old has 18 career sacks in 86 games with the Rams, Texans, Browns, Eagles and 49ers, including one sack in five games this season. The club also signed linebacker Eugene Asante, who was cut by Arizona on Tuesday, to the practice squad and opened the 21-day practice window for receiver Christian Kirk.

Lions clear three spots. Detroit placed receiver Tom Kennedy, linebacker Devin White and guard Ben Bartch on injured reserve on the last day of its bye. Dan Campbell has said Kennedy will miss the rest of the season after knee surgery and that White, who broke his forearm against Arizona, should be back at some point. Bartch has not played since Week 2 because of a foot injury. Two of the open spots are expected to go to safety Brian Branch and center Cade Mays, who are set to make their season debuts against Green Bay.

The Lions also agreed on Thursday with veteran receiver and return man DeAndre Carter, Tom Pelissero reported. His practice squad signing was filed on Monday.

Shipley out, Milton in. The Philadelphia Eagles put running back Will Shipley on injured reserve with a partially torn plantar fascia from the game in London. That opened the roster spot for quarterback Joe Milton III, whom Philadelphia signed off the Dallas practice squad that night with Jalen Hurts already ruled out because of a blood clot. Shipley can return in Week 11 at the earliest.

Philadelphia Eagles on X

Slayton released. The Colts cut Slayton 24 days after signing him, and he never played a snap for them. Our Slayton story has Shane Steichen’s explanation.

Thursday night call-ups. Denver elevated safety Taylor Rapp and defensive back Sean Fresch Jr. for the game against Seattle, and the Seahawks called up receiver Irvin Charles and linebacker Jimmy Ciarlo. All four went back to their practice squads on Friday. Broncos edge rusher Jonathon Cooper came off the Commissioner Exempt List the same day; our exempt list story covers his case and Josh Jacobs’.

Return trips. Houston brought linebacker Chris Braswell back to its practice squad two days after waiving him and released Kenneth Murray from the unit. New Orleans did the same with defensive back Jayden Price, who was cut on Tuesday. The Los Angeles Chargers put fullback Alec Ingold on injured reserve and promoted outside linebacker Caleb Murphy into his roster spot on Saturday.

What comes next

Saturday’s moves are in our Saturday roundup, and Monday’s are in the Monday roundup. Kirk and Washington’s Jordan Magee have 21 days from their designations to be activated; Magee was activated on Monday.
