Zach Charbonnet will play his first game of the season on Monday night, less than nine months after surgery on a torn ACL. The Seattle Seahawks left the running back off their final injury report before the visit of the Chicago Bears, but they will be without left tackle Charles Cross, receiver Rashid Shaheed and running back Velus Jones Jr., all hurt in last Sunday’s win over the Kansas City Chiefs.

Edge rusher Uchenna Nwosu (ankle) is doubtful. Guard Anthony Bradford (knee), backup quarterback Drew Lock (right elbow), linebacker Patrick O’Connell (toe) and defensive tackle Brandon Pili (back) are questionable for the game at Lumen Field.

Charbonnet and Jadarian Price

Charbonnet was taken off the physically unable to perform list on October 21 but was held out against Kansas City. He practiced fully on Thursday, was limited on Friday and finished the week without a game designation. Coach Mike Macdonald confirmed he will play and described him as a three-down back who can stay on the field because he protects the passer well. “We have a plan for Zach,” Macdonald said.

Rookie Jadarian Price, the first-round pick who missed four games on injured reserve with a chest injury, practiced fully on Friday and also carries no designation. He is not yet back on the 53-man roster, though, so Seattle must activate him before Monday’s deadline for him to play. Macdonald said the team has a plan for both backs and that any roster move would come on Monday.

Who did not practice

Cross, Shaheed, Jones and Nwosu did not take part on Thursday or Friday. Cross has a high ankle sprain, and Ian Rapoport reported early in the week that he could be back in one to two weeks depending on his rehab. Josh Jones is expected to start at left tackle in his place. Shaheed left the Chiefs game with a knee injury; Macdonald said on Monday the early news was positive but that a knee always makes you hold your breath.

Bradford and O’Connell were limited on Thursday and then sat out Friday, which makes both of their questionable tags worth watching. Pili also missed Friday. Defensive tackle Byron Murphy II was added on Friday with a back injury and limited, but he has no designation. Linebacker Tyrice Knight (hip) was limited as well.

There is good news on defense too: linebacker Drake Thomas practiced fully and is set to return after missing two games with an ankle injury. Quenton Nelson, the guard acquired from the Indianapolis Colts on Tuesday, was a full participant and is expected to make his Seattle debut at left guard, with Grey Zabel moving to right guard. DeMarcus Lawrence and Jaxon Smith-Njigba were given rest days.

What it means for Monday

Seattle is 4-3 after the 20-3 win over the Chiefs, in which Smith-Njigba caught nine passes for 150 yards. Without Shaheed, Sam Darnold loses his main deep threat, and Josh Jones takes on a Bears pass rush that now includes Jeffery Simmons. The 5-2 Bears ruled out running back Kyle Monangai for a fourth straight game and listed linebacker D’Marco Jackson (ankle) and cornerback Malik Muhammad (toe) as questionable.

What comes next

The Bears play at the Seahawks on Monday, November 2, at 8:15 p.m. ET, which is 3:15 a.m. Tuesday in Cairo. Seattle then hosts the Arizona Cardinals on Sunday, November 8, at 4:25 p.m. ET. The full game page is on the Bears-Seahawks Game Center, and every team’s report is on the injuries page.

The why matters.
