Las Vegas promoted receiver Cody White to its active roster Tuesday and placed Jack Bech on injured reserve, the team announced, reshaping its receiving depth before Sunday’s home game against Kansas City.
White has turned all three of his catches this season into touchdowns. He has 28 receiving yards and had been elevated from the practice squad for each of the Raiders’ first three games.
The club said that makes White only the second wide receiver in the past 30 years whose first three receptions of a season were all touchdowns, following Torrey Smith in 2011.
Two scores came during the Week 2 victory over the Chargers; he added a four-yard touchdown in Sunday’s 35-27 win over New Orleans. His career total stood at one receiving touchdown entering this season.
The contract also resolves a roster limit. White had used all three of his standard regular-season practice-squad elevations, so Las Vegas needed him on the 53-man roster to keep using him in games. This was a signing, rather than a fourth temporary elevation. Bech went on injured reserve after a forearm injury in Week 3, and White also brought four special-teams tackles through the first three games.
Bech must miss at least four games following his September 29 placement on injured reserve: Kansas City, New England, Buffalo and the Rams. On the published schedule, the November 1 game at the Jets is his earliest eligible game. That is an eligibility date, not a recovery forecast or confirmation that he will be activated.
Las Vegas also waived receiver Justin Shorter and signed Phillip Dorsett to the practice squad. Both the Raiders and Chiefs enter their Week 4 meeting unbeaten at 3-0.
