Joe DeLeone and Ryan Roberts built their new 2027 first round, released Thursday, October 22, around one question: where do the quarterbacks land? Their answer is a run of three passers in three picks, Drew Mestemaker at No. 4, Trinidad Chambliss at No. 5 and Darian Mensah at No. 6, and no room at all in Round 1 for Texas quarterback Arch Manning.

Manning, who has played in only four games this fall, has now missed the first round in a growing number of projections, including Jacob Infante’s and five of the 18 mocks in our October 22 consensus. South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers, not Manning, is the fourth quarterback here, at No. 15 to the Pittsburgh Steelers.

The calls that stand out

No quarterback for the top two. Jeremiah Smith goes first to the Dolphins, and the Titans then pass on a passer at No. 2. DeLeone’s reasoning is that Tennessee should give its second-year starter more time, so Texas edge Colin Simmons, whom they rate as the best pass rusher in the class, goes second. The Chargers follow with Notre Dame corner Leonard Moore rather than an edge or an interior lineman.

Three passers in a row. Arizona takes Mestemaker at No. 4, with the hosts arguing that the Cardinals should not build around Jacoby Brissett and that the Oklahoma State quarterback’s arm keeps getting better. The Jets follow with Chambliss even though one of the two hosts was cool on the Ole Miss passer’s size and age, and Cleveland takes Mensah, whose late-game plays convinced DeLeone he could be the Browns’ long-awaited fix.

The Eagles’ surprise. The biggest swing is DeLeone’s pick at No. 11: Utah tackle Zereoue Williams, a sixth-year senior who appears in few other first rounds. DeLeone rates him as a truer tackle than the bigger names on the board, points to his core strength and likens his game to former Eagles right tackle Jon Runyan.

Seaton slides. LSU tackle Jordan Seaton, who goes as high as third in Cody Williams’ mock released the same day, lasts until No. 19 here, to the Houston Texans. Texas tackle Trevor Goosby falls even further, to No. 28 for the Browns.

Position count

The round includes four quarterbacks, four cornerbacks, four defensive tackles, four edge rushers, four offensive tackles, three safeties, three receivers, two interior offensive linemen, two linebackers, one tight end (LSU’s Trey’Dez Green, at No. 24 to Denver) and one running back (Florida’s Jadan Baugh, at No. 26 to Jacksonville). The Jets again pick three times, at 5, 9 and 17, and Georgia supplies three first-rounders in Ellis Robinson IV, Chris Cole and KJ Bolden.

What comes next

The pair close by warning that the quarterback order will look very different by April, and the next shake-up starts with this weekend’s college games and the Week 7 NFL results that reset the draft order on Monday night.
