Denver will be without both starting cornerbacks on Sunday. The Broncos ruled out Pat Surtain II (ankle) and Riley Moss (ribs) against the Los Angeles Chargers after neither practiced all week.
Barron and Abrams-Draine step in
Reserve cornerbacks Jahdae Barron and Kris Abrams-Draine will take over, as they did in last week’s loss to San Francisco, according to Sports Illustrated. “They’re savvy players, they both have good football instincts and IQ,” head coach Sean Payton said Wednesday. Both starters are expected back within a few games; neither injury is considered long-term.
Chargers in worse shape
Los Angeles ruled out seven players, including tackle Joe Alt, safety Derwin James, receiver Quentin Johnston and cornerback Donte Jackson, with backup quarterback Trey Lance doubtful. Denver also placed receiver Pat Bryant on short-term injured reserve, sidelining him for at least four games.
