Andy Dalton is out in Philadelphia. The Eagles are releasing the veteran quarterback from their 53-man roster, per Pro Football Rumors, citing Mike Garafolo.

McKee is Hurts’ backup

The move leaves Tanner McKee and rookie Cole Payton behind Jalen Hurts. Dalton, in his age-39 season, had won the backup job out of camp, but head coach Nick Sirianni reinstalled McKee as the No. 2 before Week 4.

A practice-squad return is possible

As a vested veteran, Dalton goes straight to free agency without waivers, and a return on Philadelphia’s practice squad is in play, Garafolo reports. The Eagles take on roughly $1 million in dead money. Dalton arrived in a March trade that sent a 2027 seventh-round pick to Carolina; he appeared in one game, throwing an end-zone interception in Week 3 against Chicago.
