The New England Patriots and Chicago Bears both held walkthroughs on Monday instead of practices, but with Thursday night’s game at Soldier Field three days away, both had to file an injury report. The participation is an estimate. Caleb Williams is no longer on Chicago’s list, guard Jonah Jackson is, and three New England offensive linemen are on the list.
- Bears did not participate: LB T.J. Edwards (hamstring), G Jonah Jackson (hip/quadricep), RB Kyle Monangai (thumb/toe), LB Jack Sanborn (concussion)
- Bears full: LB Keyshaun Elliott (quadricep), DB Tyrique Stevenson Sr. (hip)
- Patriots did not participate: K Andy Borregales (personal), OL Ben Brown (knee), CB Carlton Davis III (neck), DT Joshua Farmer (personal), G Alijah Vera-Tucker (hamstring)
- Patriots limited: WR A.J. Brown (ankle), CB Channing Canada (hamstring), T Morgan Moses (foot), CB Karon Prunty (hamstring)
- Patriots full: T Marcus Bryant (ankle), S Kevin Byard III (chest), T Will Campbell (knee), LB Christian Elliss (chest), RB TreVeyon Henderson (ankle), LB Dre’Mont Jones (shoulder), QB Drake Maye (right shoulder), S Craig Woodson (shoulder)
Bears: Caleb Williams is clear, Jonah Jackson is not
Williams was questionable for Sunday’s 31-23 win in Atlanta after a torn hamstring cost him three games. He went 30 of 36 for 305 yards and a touchdown, and he does not appear on Monday’s report at all. Cornerback Kyler Gordon, who was questionable last week with a calf injury and had three sacks against the Falcons, is also off the list.
Jackson is the main concern. The right guard hurt his hip in the third quarter on Sunday, and the report now lists him with hip and quadricep injuries. Jeremy Fowler reported on Monday that he is week-to-week and that his status for Thursday is in doubt. Offensive coordinator Press Taylor called Jackson “one of the faces” of the line. “We’ll see where Jonah’s at, and if he’s got a chance to play on Thursday or not,” Taylor said. “But we are excited about some of the depth we have behind those guys as well on the inside.” Luke Newman, who replaced Jackson against Atlanta, “did a good job to finish that game out for us,” Taylor said.
Linebacker T.J. Edwards (hamstring) and running back Kyle Monangai (thumb/toe) were both ruled out for the Falcons game and are listed again as non-participants. Linebacker Jack Sanborn is new to the report with a concussion. Special teams coordinator Richard Hightower singled him out for his “big hits on kickoff” in Atlanta. Linebacker Keyshaun Elliott, who missed Sunday’s game with a quadricep injury, and cornerback Tyrique Stevenson Sr., who was questionable with a hip injury, were both estimated as full participants.
Patriots: three linemen on the list
New England’s 26-19 win over the New York Jets cost it three offensive linemen. Left guard Alijah Vera-Tucker (hamstring) and Ben Brown (knee), who moved in for him, would not have practiced. Right tackle Morgan Moses, who left in the fourth quarter, is listed as limited with a foot injury. Mike Vrabel gave no timelines for any of them on Monday, and the team signed interior linemen Andrew Rupcich and Jacob Rizy to the practice squad.
A.J. Brown was limited with the ankle injury that kept him out for four games before he returned on Sunday. Against the Jets he caught three of 10 targets for 27 yards. Cornerback Carlton Davis III (neck) remains a non-participant after missing the Jets game, while cornerback Karon Prunty (hamstring), who was also out on Sunday, was estimated as limited. Kicker Andy Borregales and defensive tackle Joshua Farmer were listed for personal reasons.
Several players who were questionable last week were estimated as full participants: running back TreVeyon Henderson (ankle), tackles Will Campbell (knee) and Marcus Bryant (ankle), linebacker Christian Elliss (chest) and safety Craig Woodson (shoulder). Drake Maye remains on the report with his right shoulder but was a full participant. Receiver Romeo Doubs is not on the list because the team put him on injured reserve with a shoulder injury on Monday.
What comes next
Both teams will release a second report on Tuesday, and Wednesday’s report will include game designations because of the Thursday kickoff. The key questions are whether Jackson can practice in any form, whether Moses and the two Patriots guards can return to the field, and whether Sanborn clears the concussion protocol on a short week.
