The Detroit Lions and Baltimore Ravens got the Thursday they were hoping for. Every Lions player who sat out on Wednesday was back on the field for the portion of practice open to reporters, including running back Jahmyr Gibbs (shoulder) and receiver Amon-Ra St. Brown (ankle). In Baltimore, safety Kyle Hamilton, linebacker Roquan Smith and rookie guard Vega Ioane all returned from knee injuries, and Lamar Jackson practiced again a day after his first full session since spraining his ankle. The official Thursday reports, which will list each player as full, limited or out, are due late Thursday night Cairo time.

  • Lions: Gibbs, St. Brown and Tyleik Williams back; all seven Wednesday absentees returned before the 6-0 Minnesota Vikings visit
  • Ravens: Hamilton, Roquan Smith and Ioane back; safety Jaylinn Hawkins (knee) the only player missing before the trip to Buffalo
  • Bengals: Ja’Marr Chase is expected to play against the Tennessee Titans; his ankle is not considered a major problem
  • Buccaneers: Bucky Irving was not at practice, while Kenneth Gainwell and Josiah Trotter returned and Emeka Egbuka shed his non-contact jersey
  • Eagles: Jalen Carter says his wrist is getting better but will not be 100 percent this season

Gibbs and St. Brown are back for the Lions

Gibbs was a surprise addition to Wednesday’s report with a shoulder injury that had not come up before, after he played 61 snaps in the 20-17 win over the Green Bay Packers. St. Brown hurt his ankle in that game, and Dan Campbell had said on Wednesday that the plan was for him to practice on Thursday. Both were on the field, along with defensive tackle Tyleik Williams, who was ill on Wednesday, and the four veterans who had rest days: Aidan Hutchinson, Penei Sewell, Alim McNeill and DJ Wonnum. Safety Kerby Joseph practiced for a second straight day in his comeback from a knee injury that kept him out for a year, with a compression sleeve on his left leg.

Whether Gibbs and St. Brown are listed as full or limited will be the next clue. Detroit hosts the Vikings at 8 pm Sunday Cairo time in a game that could decide the early lead in the NFC North.

Kyle Hamilton, Roquan Smith and Vega Ioane return for the Ravens

All three starters missed Wednesday’s practice with knee injuries. Hamilton played through his for most of Sunday’s 35-13 loss to the Cincinnati Bengals after getting hurt early, and he was back on Thursday wearing a brace. Smith briefly left that game in the fourth quarter before returning. The biggest surprise was Ioane, the first-round pick, who was practicing four days after spraining the MCL in his right knee and was wearing a brace. Jesse Minter had refused to rule him out for Sunday on Wednesday. Safety Jaylinn Hawkins, who missed the Bengals game with a knee injury, was the only Raven not seen at practice.

Jackson was on the field again after his first full practice since October 2, and the Ravens are now preparing as if their quarterback will start in Buffalo after missing three games. Offensive coordinator Declan Doyle said the coaches are trying to limit any rust. “We’re trying to make the practice as close to game-like reps as we can,” Doyle said. Baltimore also hosts the Jacksonville Jaguars next Thursday, so the short week that follows the Bills game makes the health of Hamilton, Smith and Ioane even more important.

Ja’Marr Chase expected to play

Ian Rapoport reported on Thursday morning that Chase’s ankle injury is not considered serious and that the Bengals’ star receiver should be fine for Sunday’s home game against the Titans. Cincinnati listed him as a non-participant on Wednesday with an ankle injury and rest, which made the day look mostly like maintenance after he helped beat the Ravens. Rapoport added that the Denver Broncos’ Jaylen Waddle (chest) is still up in the air for Sunday’s game against the Kansas City Chiefs.

Bucky Irving misses Buccaneers practice

Tampa Bay running back Bucky Irving was not on the field on Thursday, and the team has not said why. Irving ran for two touchdowns in last week’s 43-13 rout of the Carolina Panthers. There was better news elsewhere for the Buccaneers before Sunday’s game against the Atlanta Falcons: running back Kenneth Gainwell (hip) and linebacker Josiah Trotter returned after missing Wednesday, safety Antoine Winfield Jr. practiced again, and receiver Emeka Egbuka swapped his non-contact jersey for a regular one as he works through the concussion protocol. Right tackle Luke Goedeke worked on a separate field.

Jalen Carter’s wrist

Philadelphia Eagles defensive tackle Jalen Carter said on Thursday that his wrist is “getting better” but that it will not be 100 percent this season. The cast he has been playing in is getting smaller, he said, and he might wear a small one this week before going without it eventually. The Eagles play the Washington Commanders on Sunday night, and their Thursday report will show whether Saquon Barkley (hamstring, back) and DeVonta Smith (hamstring) can do more than they did in Wednesday’s walk-through.

Thursday night: Panthers at Packers

Matthew Golden (shoulder, foot) is questionable but trending toward playing for Green Bay, according to Rapoport, while Carolina has ruled out edge rusher Jaelan Phillips (hamstring). Kickoff is 2:15 am Friday in Cairo, and inactives are due about 90 minutes earlier. The full Panthers-Packers injury picture is here.

What to watch next

The Seattle Seahawks, who play the Chicago Bears on Monday night, file their first report of the week later on Thursday. The Broncos (Waddle, Zach Allen, Talanoa Hufanga), Chiefs (Rashee Rice, L’Jarius Sneed), Vikings (Aaron Jones Sr.) and Buffalo Bills (DJ Moore, Spencer Brown) practice later in the day, and the Los Angeles Chargers could put Derwin James on injured reserve before Sunday. Wednesday’s official injury reports are here.
