Malik Nabers missed the Giants’ opening practice of Week 5 on Wednesday, October 7, with a knee issue, adding uncertainty around the receiver ahead of New York’s trip to face Washington.
The Giants listed Nabers as a non-participant. Speaking afterward, he described greater soreness than he normally experiences during the week and stopped short of saying whether he would play Sunday.
“We’ll see how the next day goes,” Nabers said, according to reporter Ed Valentine. Nabers worked separately with trainers during the session.
A setback after his strongest game
The absence followed Nabers’ most productive performance of the season: six catches for 112 yards and a touchdown against Arizona. The score was his first of the year.
New York enters the Washington matchup at 3-1 after consecutive home victories. The Commanders are 1-3, giving the Giants an opportunity to improve their position in the NFC East on the road.
Wednesday’s report did not assign Nabers a game-status designation. His DNP records what happened at practice; it does not establish that he will miss the game or that he has been cleared to play. His participation later in the week will provide the next update.
Other offensive injuries to watch
Left tackle Andrew Thomas also did not practice because of a groin issue. Running back Cam Skattebo was limited with a shoulder injury, while tight ends Isaiah Likely and Chris Manhertz were limited by knee/groin and shoulder issues, respectively.
Washington quarterback Jayden Daniels practiced fully despite a left-elbow listing. Receivers Terry McLaurin and Stefon Diggs, both listed with hamstring injuries, did not participate. Those entries leave both offenses with availability questions as preparations continue.
