The Indianapolis Colts started selling on Tuesday, October 27. They traded eight-time Pro Bowl guard Quenton Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks for a 2027 third-round pick and a 2028 fifth-round pick, and a few hours later agreed to send defensive tackle DeForest Buckner back to the San Francisco 49ers for a 2027 fourth-round pick. Elsewhere, the Arizona Cardinals put receiver Jalen Brooks on injured reserve, the Cincinnati Bengals did the same with tight end Erick All Jr., and the New York Giants lost running back Tyrone Tracy Jr. for at least four games.

The trade deadline is Tuesday, November 10, at 4 p.m. ET, so there are two weeks left for more deals.

The moves that matter

Nelson heads to Seattle. Nelson was the sixth overall pick in 2018 and a first-team All-Pro in each of his first three seasons. He has also been a second-team All-Pro three times. He is in the last year of his contract, and the Colts fired general manager Chris Ballard last week. The Seahawks started Grey Zabel and Anthony Bradford at guard in the Week 7 win over the Kansas City Chiefs, and left tackle Charles Cross left that game with an ankle injury, so Nelson gives the defending champions another option on the line. The deal is pending a physical. To make room, Seattle waived guard Christian Haynes, a 2024 third-round pick who made five starts this season while Bradford was out.

Buckner goes back to San Francisco. The 49ers drafted Buckner seventh overall in 2016 and traded him to Indianapolis in 2020 for the No. 13 pick. He had 12 sacks for San Francisco in 2018 and played on the team that reached Super Bowl LIV. Now in his 11th season, he has four sacks and eight quarterback hits this year and 75.5 sacks in 158 career games. His contract also expires after this season. Adam Schefter noted that a fourth-round pick now is better than the fifth-round compensatory pick the Colts could have received if Buckner left in free agency. The 49ers added Osa Odighizuwa from the Dallas Cowboys in the offseason and expect Nick Bosa back from his calf injury soon. Buckner and Nelson, teammates for six seasons, will now play each other twice a year in the NFC West.

What the Colts saved. Tom Pelissero reported that the two trades cleared more than $17.7 million in cash and cap space for Indianapolis, along with the three picks. The Colts lost 16-10 to the Minnesota Vikings on Sunday, as our Colts-Vikings recap explains. Buckner had talked about the trade deadline and Ballard’s firing last week, as our story from that day shows. Running back Jonathan Taylor, who is signed for two more seasons, is the name most often mentioned as the next possible move. Indianapolis also put cornerback Cam Taylor-Britt on injured reserve with a groin injury and promoted cornerback Kenneth Harris from the practice squad.

Brooks’ season is over. Brooks dislocated his wrist in Sunday’s loss to the Denver Broncos and played the last three quarters with it before having emergency surgery. Arizona signed veteran receiver Zay Jones, waived tight end Jameson Geers, and re-signed safety Wydett Williams Jr. and lineman Austin Deculus to the practice squad. Our Monday injury diagnoses covered the injury.

Bengals change their tight end room. All hurt his knee in Sunday’s 35-13 win over the Baltimore Ravens, as our Bengals injury update reported. Cincinnati signed Cam Grandy, who spent the past two seasons with the Bengals, off the Vikings’ practice squad. Tight end Josh Kattus went on practice squad injured reserve, and Caden Prieskorn took his practice squad spot.

Thornton returns in Las Vegas. The Las Vegas Raiders activated receiver Dont’e Thornton Jr., who had been out since training camp with a hamstring injury. He caught 10 passes for 135 yards as a rookie in 2025. Defensive tackle Jonah Laulu, who started 15 games last season but was a healthy scratch on Sunday, was waived to make room.

Elsewhere. Giants general manager Joe Schoen said Tracy has a hamstring injury and should return this season. New York signed rookie running back Gregory Desrosiers off the Los Angeles Chargers’ practice squad and added veteran defensive lineman Dean Lowry to its practice squad. The Chicago Bears signed running back Zavier Scott to the 53-man roster after three straight elevations and released defensive back Nick McCloud. Tight end Carsen Ryan, waived by the Cleveland Browns, and punter Bryce Baringer, released by the New England Patriots, both went unclaimed.

What comes next

Green Bay center Sean Rhyan (ankle) and receiver Matthew Golden (shoulder, foot) were listed as out of practice again on Tuesday ahead of Thursday night’s game against the Carolina Panthers, but the Packers have not moved Rhyan to injured reserve. The Philadelphia Eagles have made no move with Saquon Barkley after he aggravated his hamstring on his first carry against the Cowboys. Seattle still has to open the practice window for running back Jadarian Price. Any Wednesday moves will be in our next roundup, and Houston general manager Nick Caserio’s trade deadline comments are a guide to what the Texans might do.

The why matters.
