The Chicago Bears agreed on Thursday, October 29, to trade their 2027 and 2028 first-round picks and a 2027 fourth-round pick to the Tennessee Titans for All-Pro defensive tackle Jeffery Simmons and a 2028 fifth-round pick. The deal is pending a physical, which Simmons is expected to take on Friday. Chicago waived defensive lineman Jamree Kromah to open a spot on the 53-man roster.

The Indianapolis Colts filled Quenton Nelson’s roster spot with offensive tackle Charlie Heck, and the Carolina Panthers put cornerback Akayleb Evans on injured reserve before Thursday night’s game at Green Bay. The trade deadline is Tuesday, November 10, at 4 p.m. ET.

The moves that matter

The Bears pay two first-round picks for Simmons. The Titans announced the terms on Thursday. Tennessee is 1-6, and Chicago is 5-2 with a Monday night game at Seattle next. Simmons is the first defensive tackle since the common draft era began in 1967 to be traded for more than one first-round pick. He was a first-team All-Pro in 2025 with a career-high 11 sacks, and in June he signed a three-year, $105.8 million extension with $100 million guaranteed. Titans general manager Mike Borgonzi said the Bears’ Ryan Poles called on Wednesday night to start the talks. The full story of his career and the contract is in our Simmons interactive.

Kromah makes room in Chicago. Kromah, an undrafted rookie from James Madison in 2024, played in the last two games and made two tackles. The Bears also signed cornerback Josh Butler to the practice squad. Butler, 29, played six games for the Dallas Cowboys from 2023 to 2025 and was released by the Canadian Football League’s Ottawa Redblacks on October 22. He previously played for Bears defensive backs coach Al Harris.

The Colts replace Nelson. Indianapolis signed Heck to the 53-man roster two days after trading Nelson to the Seattle Seahawks, as our Tuesday roundup explains. Heck, a 2020 fourth-round pick of the Houston Texans, has started 29 of the 67 games he has played and went to training camp with the Miami Dolphins this summer. The Colts also signed guard Joshua Gray to the practice squad and released veteran linebacker Germaine Pratt from it. Running back Jonathan Taylor said on Thursday that he has not asked for a trade, as our Colts story reports.

The Panthers arrive in Green Bay short at cornerback. Evans had already been ruled out with knee and triceps injuries and will now miss at least four games. He had started the last three games after Jaycee Horn and Mike Jackson went on injured reserve. Carolina signed Malcolm DeWalt IV to the 53-man roster a week after adding him to the practice squad. He was a healthy scratch in all six games he spent on the Atlanta Falcons’ active roster this season. The Panthers also elevated cornerback Marco Wilson, who has 37 career starts, and guard Jake Curhan, because guards Damien Lewis and Torricelli Simpkins III are out.

The Packers add a pass rusher for the night. Green Bay elevated outside linebacker Arron Mosby from the practice squad, with Brenton Cox Jr. questionable with a quad injury. Mosby has played 29 games for the Packers over the last three seasons, mostly on special teams.

Two practice windows open. The Seahawks designated rookie running back Jadarian Price to return from injured reserve after he missed four games with a chest injury, and coach Mike Macdonald called it “realistic” that Price plays on Monday night against the Bears. The Cowboys opened the 21-day window for defensive tackle Jonathan Bullard, who went on injured reserve with a calf injury on September 30. Our Thursday injury roundup has the rest of the day’s practice news.

Elsewhere. Tennessee signed nose tackle Timmy Horne to its practice squad a day after releasing him from the active roster, and released linebacker Mohamoud Diabate from the practice squad. The New Orleans Saints released defensive back David Long from injured reserve, and guard DJ Campbell, waived by Miami on Wednesday, cleared waivers.

What comes next

Simmons’ physical on Friday will make the trade official, and the Bears will then add him to the 53-man roster. The Los Angeles Chargers have said safety Derwin James may go on injured reserve after a setback with his hamstring, and the Philadelphia Eagles held out Saquon Barkley again on Thursday. Any Friday moves will be in our next roundup.

The why matters.
