October 6 update: Seattle reportedly decides against the signing

Adam Schefter reported Tuesday that the Seahawks decided not to sign Joe Mixon to their practice squad after he underwent a physical. The report does not establish a medical diagnosis.

An earlier October 6 clarification identified the deal as pending. The reported decision supersedes that status; the October 5 background below is retained as dated context.

On Monday, October 5, Seattle worked out Mixon, and coach Mike Macdonald said the team was going through the process of adding him to the practice squad.

The proposed addition followed Seattle’s decision to place first-round pick Jadarian Price on injured reserve.

A comeback after a lost season

Mixon, 30, has not played since January 2025. A foot injury kept him out for the entire 2025 season, and the Houston Texans released him in March. His last full season was a strong one: he ran for 1,016 yards and 11 touchdowns in 2024 and made his second Pro Bowl.

Before Houston, Mixon spent seven seasons with the Cincinnati Bengals, who drafted him in the second round in 2017. He has 7,428 career rushing yards and 60 rushing touchdowns.

Seattle’s backfield picture

October 6 roster update: Seattle signed rookie Robert Henry Jr. from Washington’s practice squad to its 53-man roster, waiving safety AJ Finley to make room. The Seahawks also signed running back Dontae McMillan to their practice squad and placed Jacardia Wright on practice-squad injured reserve. Henry’s active-roster signing and McMillan’s practice-squad deal are separate roster moves; neither changes the reported decision against signing Mixon.

At the time of the October 5 coverage, Seattle’s active-roster running backs were George Holani, Emanuel Wilson and Velus Jones Jr. Zach Charbonnet, who tore an ACL late in the 2025 season, has had his return window opened, so the group could look different again within weeks.

Seattle beat the Los Angeles Chargers 30–23 on Sunday and hosts the unbeaten San Francisco 49ers at Lumen Field on Sunday, October 11, at 4:25 p.m. EDT. The 49ers–Seahawks Game Center will show confirmed inactives and live scoring.

Roster moves will appear on the transactions tracker; follow the Seahawks team page for updates.
