Lamar Jackson and Brock Purdy are running neck and neck atop the NFL passer-rating leaderboard after five weeks of the 2026 regular season, while Matthew Stafford’s yardage lead sits in a different conversation.

Jackson’s 119.6 rating edges Purdy’s 119.3. Jared Goff follows at 111.3, with Trevor Lawrence at 106.8 and Patrick Mahomes at 106.2, according to league totals compiled through Week 5.

Efficiency at the top

Jackson has completed 70.8% of his throws for 967 yards, six touchdowns and one interception on only 96 attempts across four games for the 4-1 Baltimore Ravens. His 10.1 yards per attempt is the highest among qualified starters.

Purdy has thrown for 1,196 yards with 13 touchdowns and two interceptions for the 5-0 San Francisco 49ers. He sits 13th in raw passing yards but second in rating, with a 69.0% completion rate and just three sacks taken.

Stafford leads yards, not rating

Stafford tops the league with 1,572 passing yards on 216 attempts, but his 88.3 rating reflects nine touchdowns against six interceptions for a 2-3 Rams team. Volume and efficiency have diverged early: the top five in yards are Stafford, Goff, Jordan Love (1,408), C.J. Stroud (1,402) and Dak Prescott (1,381).

Only Goff appears in both the top five in yards and the top five in rating. Purdy’s 13 touchdown passes lead the league; Goff and Kirk Cousins each have 12.

Standings backdrop

San Francisco and Minnesota are the only 5-0 clubs. Kansas City is 4-0 with a bye already used. Baltimore, Jacksonville and Buffalo sit at 4-1. Miami, the Los Angeles Chargers and Tennessee are 0-5.
