New York Jets head coach Aaron Glenn announced Wednesday that rookie wide receiver Omar Cooper Jr. will return to practice this week, opening his 21-day window to come off injured reserve. The club also signed linebacker Troy Reeder to the practice squad, a day after releasing him from the active roster.
Cooper gets back on the field
Cooper hurt his ankle in the Jets’ 23-10 Week 1 win over the Tennessee Titans after playing only five snaps. His one catch in that game went for 30 yards, 26 of them after the catch, and set up the opening-drive touchdown. He was listed as a limited participant on Wednesday’s injury report.
“You never want any rookie to miss time because the reps are valuable for those guys,” Glenn said. “For him to actually start to get these reps again, then get back out there again and be able to compete is a big thing for us.”
The Jets moved back into the first round of the 2026 draft to take Cooper out of Indiana, where he had 69 receptions for 937 yards and 13 touchdowns in a national championship season. Fellow receiver Adonai Mitchell remains week to week after a procedure on his hand, so Cooper’s return could add depth quickly.
Reeder’s quick return
Reeder was released on Tuesday, when the Jets also added edge rusher Quinton Bell to the practice squad. He first joined the practice squad on September 2 and was promoted to the active roster on September 22, dressing for four games with four tackles across 85 special-teams snaps.
The Jets visit the New England Patriots on Sunday in their first AFC East game of the season.
