The Cleveland Browns designated running back Dylan Sampson to return from injured reserve on Wednesday, the club announced, making him eligible to practice and opening a 21-day window for him to be added back to the 53-man roster.
Out since the opener
Sampson hurt his left knee in the season opener against the Jacksonville Jaguars on September 13 and went on injured reserve two days later. A fourth-round pick in 2025, he has played 16 career games, with 175 rushing yards on 65 carries and 33 catches for 271 yards and two touchdowns.
Why the timing matters
The move comes one day after Cleveland placed running back Raheim Sanders on injured reserve with a hip injury and signed Audric Estime off the Minnesota Vikings practice squad. Head coach Todd Monken suggested Sampson could have a chance to play Sunday against the Baltimore Ravens, Scott Petrak reported, though he would likely need at least one full practice this week before the club activates him.
If Sampson is not ready for Baltimore, the Browns can keep him practicing on injured reserve until the 21-day window closes. WhyNFL will track whether he is activated before kickoff.
