Rayuan Lane delivered the tackle Jacksonville needed, stopping Chase Brown short of a first down to preserve the Jaguars’ 22–17 victory over the Cincinnati Bengals at Paycor Stadium on Sunday, October 4.

The Jaguars improved to 3–1 with their second consecutive win. Cincinnati dropped to 2–2 after losing for the second straight week.

A fourth-down stop and two costly interceptions

Brown gained nine yards on Joe Burrow’s fourth-and-10 pass before Lane brought him down at Jacksonville’s 12-yard line. With 50 seconds remaining, Cincinnati’s final opportunity to overturn the five-point deficit was over.

Earlier, Jourdan Lewis had returned an interception 45 yards to the Bengals’ 18. Trevor Lawrence turned that opening into a seven-yard touchdown pass to Brian Thomas Jr., giving Jacksonville a 13–3 halftime lead.

Foye Oluokun supplied another crucial interception at the Jaguars’ 10 early in the fourth quarter, protecting a 16–10 advantage. Chris Rodriguez Jr. later broke through for a 25-yard touchdown run with 6:35 remaining to make it 22–10.

Burrow’s big afternoon leaves Cincinnati short

The Bengals had opened the second half with a 12-play touchdown drive, finished by Burrow’s 15-yard pass to Mike Gesicki. Burrow added a rushing touchdown with fewer than four minutes left. Cincinnati regained possession with 1:56 to play but could not complete the comeback.

Burrow finished 39 of 54 for 428 yards, one passing touchdown and two interceptions. Tee Higgins caught 11 passes for 157 yards. Burrow’s 29th career 300-yard passing game moved him ahead of Andy Dalton for the most in Bengals history.

Lawrence completed 18 of 23 attempts for 227 yards and a touchdown without an interception. Brenton Strange led Jacksonville’s receivers with seven catches for 95 yards, while Bhayshul Tuten carried 17 times for 73 yards.

Cincinnati gained 437 total net yards to Jacksonville’s 323, but its rushing attack managed just 23 yards on 15 attempts. The Jaguars produced 111 rushing yards, giving their offense a much larger contribution on the ground alongside Lawrence’s efficient passing. Neither team avoided mistakes: Jacksonville was penalized 13 times for 125 yards, and Cincinnati drew 11 flags for 108 yards.

London next for Jacksonville

The Jaguars face Philadelphia at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium on October 11, then Houston at Wembley on October 18. Cincinnati travels to Miami for its Week 5 game.
