Chapter 1

Trade made official

On Friday, Nov. 6, the Baltimore Ravens and Arizona Cardinals made the Jacoby Brissett trade official. Baltimore receives Brissett and a 2027 fifth-round pick. Arizona receives a 2027 fourth-round pick and a 2028 seventh-round pick. The Cardinals are covering a little more than half of Brissett’s remaining 2026 salary.

Baltimore announced the acquisition on the club account. Arizona posted a thank-you to Brissett the same day.

Chapter 2

Why Baltimore needed a veteran

Lamar Jackson is on injured reserve after thumb surgery and is out indefinitely. Tyler Huntley is done for the season with turf toe. Baltimore placed both on IR this week, signed Austin Reed, and turned to undrafted rookie Joe Fagnano for Thursday night.

Brissett, 33, gives the Ravens a veteran who has started for six franchises and can stabilize a playoff chase that was slipping without Jackson.

Chapter 3

Three starters in three games

On Thursday night in Baltimore, Fagnano started and the Ravens fell 33-10 to the Jacksonville Jaguars. It was the third different starting quarterback in three games and a fourth straight loss. Baltimore sits 4-5. The club was held under 14 points for a fourth straight game.

The trade was being finalized Wednesday and Thursday, so Brissett was not available for the Jaguars game. The short week into Los Angeles becomes his first chance to learn Declan Doyle’s offense.

Chapter 4

Brissett’s eight Arizona starts

Brissett started the first eight games for Arizona this season before the Cardinals turned to Gardner Minshew. In those starts he completed 63.3 percent of his passes for 1,719 yards, 10 touchdowns and seven interceptions.

He asked for a trade after the benching. Minshew is now the Cardinals’ starter, with rookie Carson Beck as the backup. Brissett is a pending free agent after this season; start-and-win incentives carry over to Baltimore.

Chapter 5

Salary bridge and the deadline

Arizona converted about $2.7 million of Brissett’s remaining base salary into a signing bonus so Baltimore would take on the rest — a necessary step for a Ravens club near the bottom of the league in available cap space. The net pick swap is a 2027 fourth and 2028 seventh for a 2027 fifth and the quarterback.

The deal closes one of the clearest quarterback needs ahead of Tuesday’s Nov. 10 trade deadline. Arizona moves on with Minshew and Beck; Baltimore gets a veteran bridge while Jackson recovers.

  2. Clubs finalize terms while Fagnano starts TNF.
  3. Trade official; salary bridge confirmed.
  4. League trade deadline.
  5. Ravens at Chargers — Brissett’s expected debut window.

Baltimore’s quarterback room went from Jackson and Huntley to Fagnano in days, then to Brissett by Friday. The pick cost is modest, the salary bridge is shared, and the next test is a short week in Los Angeles. For Arizona, the page turns to Minshew and Beck. For the Ravens, the carousel finally has a veteran name on top.

The why matters.
