Game preview

Preview: Chargers at Seahawks, October 4

Updated October 3, 2026, Eastern time, with Seattle’s Saturday roster moves. The Seattle Seahawks host the Los Angeles Chargers at Lumen Field on Sunday, October 4. Kickoff is 1:25 p.m. PDT / 4:25 p.m. EDT, with CBS carrying the game in its assigned markets. Seattle enters 2–1; Los Angeles is 0–3. This is a pregame preview, not a recap.

Who carries the ball for Seattle?

Jadarian Price was placed on injured reserve Saturday, October 3, after aggravating his chest injury in Wednesday’s practice. He must miss at least four games before becoming eligible to return; that minimum is not a confirmed return date. Zach Charbonnet has returned to practice but is also out for this game; a practice return does not establish game eligibility.

George Holani and Emanuel Wilson are the available backs identified in Seattle’s Friday update. Seattle signed Velus Jones Jr. from the practice squad to the 53-man roster Saturday, adding another backfield option. Cornerback Trevon Diggs and safety Maxen Hook were elevated temporarily for Sunday’s game; those elevations do not guarantee snaps. The practical question is how Seattle distributes rushing attempts and passing-down work, rather than assuming any healthy back inherits every part of Price’s role.

Which Friday designations matter most?

Los Angeles also removed Khalil Mack, Bud Dupree, Justin Eboigbe and Keaton Mitchell from its game-status list. Friday’s report is not Sunday’s inactive list: questionable players remain uncertain, and practice participation alone does not settle whether a player dresses.

Matchup to watch: Seattle’s receiving threat and the Chargers’ secondary

Jaxon Smith-Njigba has 27 catches for 405 yards and six receiving touchdowns through three games. Those are early-season totals, not a prediction of Sunday’s production. They make the availability of James, Jackson and Molden especially relevant when assessing Los Angeles’ coverage options.

Preview analysis: Seattle’s backfield absences and the Chargers’ defensive-back uncertainty create different selection problems. Watch how Seattle balances its remaining runners with the passing game, and which defensive backs Los Angeles actually has available. McConkey’s status matters at the other end: his listing leaves an important part of the Chargers’ receiving group unresolved. None of these designations proves a particular coverage assignment or a replacement starter.

What to check before kickoff

Return to the Chargers injury page and Seahawks injury page for later updates, then distinguish the final game-day inactive announcement from the Friday report above. In particular, check McConkey and the three questionable Chargers defensive backs, Seattle’s two questionable defenders, and how Seattle uses its backfield after signing Jones and placing Price on injured reserve.
