Updated October 11, 1:45 p.m. EDT: Jalyx Hunt and Michael Carter II were also ruled out, Tyler Steen was hurt, and the Eagles lost 19-17.

The Philadelphia Eagles finished Sunday’s 19-17 loss to the Jacksonville Jaguars in London without three players who started the afternoon healthy: running back Will Shipley, edge rusher Jalyx Hunt and defensive back Michael Carter II were all ruled out at Tottenham Hotspur Stadium, and right guard Tyler Steen was hurt early in the second half.

The injuries pile onto a roster that flew to England already missing Saquon Barkley, DeVonta Smith, Hollywood Brown, Jonathan Greenard and center Drew Kendall. The loss drops Philadelphia to 2-3, while Jacksonville moves to 4-1.

Who was hurt and when

  • Will Shipley (foot) was hurt in the first half, listed as questionable to return and downgraded to out about 45 minutes later. He had scored the Eagles’ first touchdown on a 2-yard run and finished with 6 yards on 5 carries.
  • Michael Carter II (abdomen) was hurt late in the first half and ruled out outright. He had 6 tackles before leaving.
  • Jalyx Hunt (ankle and knee) went down on the last snap before halftime. His leg was caught beneath him, and he waved off the cart but could not put weight on the leg as he left. The team first called him questionable, then downgraded him to out.
  • Tyler Steen (shoulder) was hurt on Philadelphia’s opening possession of the third quarter and listed as questionable to return. The club has not confirmed whether he went back in.

The Eagles have not given a timeline for any of the four. No diagnosis has been announced for any of them.

How the game slipped away

Philadelphia led 14-7 at halftime after Shipley’s run and Jalen Hurts’ 62-yard touchdown pass to Darius Cooper. Jacksonville answered with Cam Little’s 34-yard field goal in the third quarter and a 27-yard touchdown catch by Parker Washington with 3:20 left, though Little missed the extra point. Jake Elliott then put the Eagles ahead 17-16 with a 48-yard field goal with eight seconds remaining, only for Little to win it with a 57-yard kick as time expired.

Without Barkley and then Shipley, the ground game never found traction. The Eagles ran 18 times for 22 yards, and Dameon Pierce managed 14 yards on 11 carries. Jacksonville outgained Philadelphia 408 yards to 232. Full numbers are in the Eagles-Jaguars Game Center.

What is not yet known is how long any of the four will be out, or whether Steen returned before the final whistle. Every designation will be tracked on the injury report page once the club issues its first report of the week.

What comes next

The Eagles return from London to host the Carolina Panthers at Lincoln Financial Field on Sunday, October 18, at 1 p.m. EDT. Any roster moves to restock the backfield or the edge rotation will appear on the transactions page, and the full schedule is on the Eagles team page.
