The Washington Commanders spotted the Philadelphia Eagles a 10-0 lead in a sloppy first quarter, then scored the final 27 points of the night to win 27-10 on Sunday night, November 1, at Northwest Stadium. Jayden Daniels threw for 217 yards and a touchdown, Drew Stevens kicked four field goals, and the Washington defense sacked Tanner McKee five times and did not allow a point over the last three-plus quarters.

Washington, coming off its bye, improves to 2-4-1 and wins for the first time in more than a month. It was also Daniels’ first win as a starter since October 5, 2025. Philadelphia falls to 2-6 and has now lost six games in a row.

A rough start for Washington

The Commanders could hardly have opened worse. Daniels’ first deep shot was intercepted by Andrew Mukuba, although an offside penalty on Jonathan Greenard wiped it out. Stevens then missed wide right from 55 yards. After Jake Elliott put Philadelphia ahead with a 40-yard field goal, Chig Okonkwo caught a short pass from Daniels and had the ball punched out by Mukuba. Zack Baun recovered at the Washington 26, and three plays later Saquon Barkley took a direct snap and scored from the 3 to make it 10-0 with 4:27 left in the first quarter.

“When you come off of a bye, you either rev right up or you need a minute to warm up, and we took a minute,” Washington coach Dan Quinn said afterward.

Daniels and Diggs settle it down

Stevens got Washington on the board with a 56-yard field goal with 28 seconds left in the first quarter. Early in the second, McKee was sacked by Shy Tuttle and the Eagles had to punt, and the Commanders went 89 yards in 11 plays. The drive included a 53-yard catch by Treylon Burks, and Daniels finished it with an 8-yard touchdown pass to Stefon Diggs to tie the game at 10 with 4:56 left in the half.

Daniels took a hard hit on Washington’s last drive of the half and was slow to get up, but he stayed in. A 27-yard punt return by Luke McCaffrey set the Commanders up at midfield, and Stevens hit from 39 yards with 19 seconds left for a 13-10 halftime lead.

The defense takes over

The second half belonged to the Washington pass rush, with Charles Omenihu, Dorance Armstrong and K’Lavon Chaisson each getting to McKee. Late in the third quarter, Armstrong sacked McKee and forced a fumble that Omenihu recovered at the Washington 40. Five plays later, Stevens kicked a 25-yard field goal to make it 16-10.

Philadelphia answered with its longest drive of the game, 15 plays over 7:35, and it was helped when a Trey Amos interception was wiped out by a roughing-the-passer penalty. But the drive fell apart in the red zone. On fourth-and-4 at the 13, a false start backed the Eagles up. Elliott then made a 36-yard field goal, but it was nullified because Philadelphia lined up in an illegal formation, and his 41-yard retry hit the left upright with 9:01 to play.

Stevens added a 42-yarder with 3:43 left. On the Eagles’ next series, K’Lavon Chaisson sacked McKee on third down, and on fourth-and-25 Rasul Douglas intercepted McKee’s deep throw and returned it 22 yards to the Philadelphia 37. Three plays later, Rachaad White ran in from the 1, and Austin Ekeler ran in the two-point conversion to make it 27-10 with 1:52 left.

The numbers

  • Jayden Daniels: 16 of 29 for 217 yards and a touchdown, no interceptions; sacked twice. He also ran twice for 23 yards.
  • Drew Stevens: 4 of 5 on field goals (56, 39, 25 and 42 yards), 13 points in all.
  • Washington receivers: Burks caught three passes for 81 yards, Antonio Williams five for 54 and Diggs three for 38 and the touchdown.
  • Washington ground game: White ran 11 times for 55 yards and a touchdown, and the Commanders averaged 5.2 yards a carry.
  • Washington defense: five sacks, one by each of Tuttle, Armstrong, Omenihu, Chaisson and Odafe Oweh, plus Douglas’ interception and Armstrong’s forced fumble. Nick Cross led the team with nine tackles.
  • Tanner McKee: 23 of 34 for 212 yards, no touchdowns and an interception; sacked five times for 35 yards and lost a fumble.
  • Eagles offense: Barkley was held to 30 yards on 13 carries, with the touchdown. Makai Lemon caught six passes for 57 yards. Jeremiah Trotter Jr. had 10 tackles on defense.

Philadelphia held the ball for 33:31 and ran 68 plays, but it managed only 3.9 yards a play and 268 total yards, and 69 of those came on a meaningless final drive. Washington gained 339 yards at 5.9 a play.

What it means

Washington’s season looked close to lost after a 1-4-1 start, and Terry McLaurin was still out on Sunday. But the NFC East is weak, and the Commanders are now two games behind the first-place New York Giants. Quinn’s team will feel much better heading into the second half of the season if this defense keeps playing like it did over the final 45 minutes.

For Philadelphia, the slide keeps getting worse. The Eagles are in last place in the division and are still playing without Jalen Hurts. “I know nobody feels sorry for us, that’s for damn sure,” Nick Sirianni said. Barkley put it more bluntly: “We’re not the big bad Eagles anymore.” Safety Michael Carter left with an abdominal injury, and Washington running back Jeremy McNichols limped off with a left foot injury.

What comes next

Philadelphia hosts the New York Giants next Sunday. Washington stays home to face the Los Angeles Rams.
