The Dallas Cowboys (2-3) visit the Green Bay Packers (3-2) at Lambeau Field on Sunday, Oct. 18, in the Week 6 edition of Sunday Night Football. Kickoff is 8:20 pm ET, which is 7:20 pm in Green Bay and 3:20 am Monday in Cairo. NBC has the game, with streaming on Peacock and a Spanish-language call on Universo.

It is the first meeting between the clubs since the trade that sent Micah Parsons from Dallas to Green Bay, but Parsons will not play. He remains on the reserve/physically unable to perform list while he works back from last season’s torn ACL, and the Packers have not opened his practice window.

Sunday night’s most familiar pairing

No two teams have appeared in more games in NBC’s Sunday night package, which began in 2006, than the Cowboys (65) and the Packers (51). Sunday is also the 25th Sunday night game at Lambeau Field, which ties the Cowboys’ AT&T Stadium and the Steelers’ Acrisure Stadium for the most hosted.

This is the 41st meeting between the teams, postseason included, and Green Bay leads the series 22-17-1. The clubs have met nine times in the playoffs, the second-most of any pairing in NFL postseason history.

Their last meeting was also on a Sunday night. In Week 4 last season at AT&T Stadium they played to a 40-40 tie. Jordan Love threw for 337 yards and three touchdowns, all to Romeo Doubs. Dak Prescott threw for 319 yards and three scores and ran for a fourth, and George Pickens caught eight passes for 134 yards and two touchdowns. Sunday will be the third meeting between Love and Prescott.

How they got here

Green Bay has won two straight, most recently a 31-7 rout of Chicago at Lambeau. Love completed 25 of 31 passes for 367 yards and two touchdowns as the Packers put up a season-high 428 yards. Christian Watson caught six passes for 143 yards and two scores, and Matthew Golden had six catches for a career-high 123 yards. The defense forced five turnovers, including two interceptions by safety Xavier McKinney.

Dallas comes in off a 24-16 home loss to Tampa Bay last Thursday, so this is its second prime-time game in a row. Because that game was on a Thursday, the Cowboys arrive with 10 days of rest, three more than Green Bay. Prescott threw for 316 yards and a touchdown in the loss, Pickens caught nine passes for 130 yards and a score, and running back Javonte Williams scored his sixth rushing touchdown of the season.

The numbers that frame it

  • Love (1,408 yards) and Prescott (1,381) rank third and fifth in the NFL in passing yards.
  • CeeDee Lamb is third in the league with 507 receiving yards. Watson (474, fifth) and Golden (397, ninth) are also in the top 10, and Watson’s six receiving touchdowns rank second.
  • Love’s career passer rating in Sunday night games is 124.5, the highest of any quarterback with at least five appearances in the NBC package.
  • Dallas has allowed a 120.5 passer rating to opposing quarterbacks, the worst mark in the league.
  • Green Bay has run for 302 yards through five games, the fewest of any team.

Taken together, the matchup points to a passing game. The Packers have barely run the ball, and the Cowboys have struggled to stop anyone through the air. Dallas’ best hope is that Prescott, Lamb and Pickens can keep up.

Availability

On Wednesday’s report, Green Bay held out defensive tackles Javon Hargrave (Achilles) and Jonathan Ford (calf), receiver Skyy Moore (ankle) and cornerbacks Keisean Nixon (groin) and Benjamin St-Juste (hamstring). Guard Aaron Banks (knee, toe), center Jacob Monk (quadriceps), defensive tackles Devonte Wyatt and Anthony Campbell (both ankle) and safety Evan Williams (illness) were limited. Receiver Savion Williams and defensive tackle Jordon Riley were also limited inside their 21-day windows to return from injured reserve.

For Dallas, Lamb (thigh) and guard Tyler Smith (thumb) were full participants. Cornerbacks Cobie Durant (hamstring) and Ameer Speed (knee), linebacker DeMarvion Overshown (hamstring) and tackle Drew Shelton (hamstring) did not practice, and cornerback Joey Porter Jr. (ankle) was limited. Von Miller had a rest day. Overshown, who has missed four games, said he hopes to return on Sunday.

Both teams will issue game designations on Friday.

Around the rest of Week 6

Sunday starts at Wembley Stadium, where Houston and Jacksonville kick off at 9:30 am ET (4:30 pm in Cairo) on NFL Network. Ten more games fill the 1 pm and late-afternoon windows on CBS and FOX. Cincinnati, Detroit, Miami and Minnesota are on bye. The week ends Monday night, when Washington visits unbeaten San Francisco.
