The Dallas Cowboys came out of their mini-bye in better shape at two key spots: wide receiver CeeDee Lamb (thigh) and left tackle Tyler Guyton (back) were full participants Wednesday as Dallas began preparing for Sunday night’s trip to Green Bay.

Cornerback Joey Porter Jr. was limited with an ankle injury. He missed last Thursday’s loss to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers after falling ill before the game, and the hope is he is back at Lambeau Field.

Five did not practice

Linebacker DeMarvion Overshown (hamstring), cornerbacks Cobie Durant (hamstring) and Ameer Speed (knee), and offensive tackle Drew Shelton (hamstring) did not practice. Von Miller also sat out, but on a veteran rest day, and he is expected back later in the week.

Guyton was banged up with a back injury in the Week 5 loss, and Lamb was dealing with a thigh issue coming out of the same game. The extra days between the Thursday game and Sunday night gave both enough time to practice without limits on the first day of the week.

Overshown has been out since the season opener with a lingering hamstring problem. There is some hope he can return this week, but the staff will watch how he progresses. Durant, who was expected to be a significant contributor in the secondary, has also missed extended time.

Wednesday’s report

  • Did not practice: LB DeMarvion Overshown (hamstring), CB Cobie Durant (hamstring), CB Ameer Speed (knee), OT Drew Shelton (hamstring), OLB Von Miller (rest)
  • Limited: CB Joey Porter Jr. (ankle)
  • Full: WR CeeDee Lamb (thigh), LT Tyler Guyton (back), S Alijah Clark (hamstring), OLB James Houston (shoulder), CB Shavon Revel Jr. (knee), LG Tyler Smith (thumb)

Why it matters

Dallas is 2-3 after the Thursday night loss to Tampa Bay and faces a 3-2 Packers team at Lambeau Field. Having Lamb and Guyton practicing fully is the headline, but the secondary is the worry. With Durant and Speed out and Porter limited, Revel’s full practice gives the Cowboys another option at corner against Green Bay’s receivers.

Kickoff is 8:20 p.m. EDT on Sunday, October 18. Thursday’s report will show whether Porter moves to full and whether Overshown can get on the field.

The why matters.
