Charlie Campbell has taken Arch Manning out of his first round. The latest version of his 2027 NFL mock draft, refreshed on Friday, October 23 with a second round added, sends Ohio State receiver Jeremiah Smith to the Los Angeles Chargers at No. 1, makes Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker the first quarterback off the board at No. 6 to the Philadelphia Eagles, and leaves the Texas quarterback without a Day 1 home.

A week earlier, on October 16, Campbell had Manning going seventh to the New York Jets. On October 9 he had him seventh to the Arizona Cardinals. Now the Jets spend that seventh pick on Miami quarterback Darian Mensah, and five passers go in Round 1 without Manning among them.

Campbell’s draft order is not the current standings. Until the real order exists, he slots teams by Walt’s weekly power rankings, so the order in this version was set before Sunday’s Week 7 games.

Campbell’s full first round

The last column shows who Campbell had in the same slot in his October 16 version; “Same” means the pick did not change. Because the team order shifts every week, a different name in that column does not always mean a player fell.

Smith to the Chargers, Simmons to Miami

Smith went to Miami in each of Campbell’s previous two versions. This time the Chargers take him first, as the best player on the board and a No. 1 target for Justin Herbert. Campbell lists Smith at 52 catches for 984 yards and 12 touchdowns this season, a total that includes a 12-catch, 217-yard, four-touchdown afternoon against Illinois, and he sticks with his long-running Julio Jones comparison.

Miami then takes Texas edge rusher Colin Simmons, who has 10.5 sacks in 2026 after 12 last season. Notre Dame corner Leonard Moore, the Chargers’ choice in the October 16 version, goes third to the Titans.

Five quarterbacks, none of them Manning

Mestemaker was not in Campbell’s first round on October 9. Here he goes sixth, and Campbell is blunt about why: the mock reflects what he expects teams to do rather than what he would do, he regards Mestemaker as the consensus choice to be the first quarterback taken in April, and he still likens him to Blake Bortles and Paxton Lynch. He credits the 6-foot-4 passer’s arm, size and running, and he flags a habit of locking onto his first read. Through this season he has thrown 13 touchdowns against five interceptions, with 1,575 yards on a 68 percent completion rate.

Mensah follows at No. 7. After moving from Duke to Miami, he has 18 touchdown passes and only one interception this season, plus 1,764 yards on 81 percent completions. Notre Dame’s CJ Carr goes ninth to Arizona, a fit Campbell ties to Mike LaFleur’s offense, and Oregon’s Dante Moore stays at No. 14 with Cleveland. Ole Miss quarterback Trinidad Chambliss, absent from the October 16 first round, lands with Pittsburgh at No. 22, the slot that belonged to Mensah a week ago.

Manning’s slide matches what other evaluators have done this month. Jordan Reid dropped him out of his top 50 this week, and Jacob Infante as well as Joe DeLeone and Ryan Roberts also left him out of Round 1 in their newest mocks. Only the first four picks of Campbell’s second round are free to read, so where Manning now lands is not public.

The Jets still pick three times in the top 11

New York holds Nos. 7, 8 and 11 in this mock: Mensah, Tennessee defensive tackle Xavier Gilliam as a successor to Quinnen Williams, and Mississippi State corner Kelley Jones, whom Campbell sees as the true replacement for Sauce Gardner. Jones was the Bears’ pick at No. 28 a week ago, which makes him one of the clear risers in this update.

Elsewhere, Texas tackle Trevor Goosby moves to Atlanta at No. 12, LSU tight end Trey’Dez Green goes from the Eagles to Houston at No. 13, and LSU tackle Jordan Seaton and Minnesota guard Greg Johnson trade places between Cincinnati at No. 17 and Cleveland at No. 26. South Carolina edge Dylan Stewart stays at No. 16 with Seattle despite a 2026 line of five tackles and one sack around an injury and a one-game suspension.

For the earlier version and how it compared with other boards, see our story on Campbell’s October 9 mock.

What comes next

Campbell updates the mock weekly, and his team order will move again once Week 7 finishes on Monday night. The next college Saturday is October 31, and Manning, Mestemaker and Mensah all get another chance to change his mind before the next version.

The why matters.
