The Cleveland Browns left Nashville with a 27-24 win and two names to watch this week: right tackle Tytus Howard went through a concussion evaluation after a third-quarter hit, and cornerback Myles Harden did not come back after hurting his hamstring.

Both injuries came in the third quarter of Sunday’s comeback, with Cleveland trailing 17-14 at halftime. Howard stayed on the turf after a run play early in the period, got to his feet, walked to the medical tent and was then taken to the locker room for further testing. The Browns announced that he was being checked for a concussion and listed him as questionable to return. Dawand Jones replaced him at right tackle for the rest of the afternoon.

Harden went to the locker room with trainers later in the same quarter. The club called him questionable with a hamstring injury, and he did not return. Mekhi Blackmon took his snaps in the secondary.

What it means for Pittsburgh

The Browns have not given an update on either player since the final whistle. A concussion diagnosis would put Howard in the league’s protocol, which requires a player to clear a series of steps before he can practice fully and play, so his status for next Sunday depends on how he tests this week. If he cannot go, Jones, who finished the game, is the obvious answer at right tackle.

Harden’s hamstring is the other open question in a cornerback room that only got Denzel Ward back this week. Ward had been questionable before kickoff and played, intercepting a pass in the first half.

There was some relief elsewhere. Defensive tackle Mason Graham, playing for the first time since the left knee and ankle sprains he suffered against Pittsburgh in Week 4, needed help getting to the sideline in the opening minutes of the fourth quarter, then returned within a few snaps. Safety Grant Delpit, also questionable before the game, had to come off for one play at the officials’ request after a tackle and returned on Tennessee’s next series.

The first practice report of the week, on Wednesday, will show whether Howard and Harden are on the field.

What comes next

At 5-2, Cleveland visits the Pittsburgh Steelers on Sunday, November 1, at 1 p.m. EST, a rematch of the Week 4 meeting. The full result from Nashville is in the Game Center, and every club’s status is on the injuries page.

The why matters.
