Jesse Minter named Joe Fagnano the Ravens' starter for Thursday night after the rookie upgraded from limited to full with his ankle taped, kicker Tyler Loop went on injured reserve, and Jaguars running back Bhayshul Tuten missed a second straight practice.

Joe Fagnano will start for the Baltimore Ravens on Thursday night, and he did it on a full practice. Head coach Jesse Minter announced Tuesday that the undrafted rookie quarterback, who was limited in Monday’s walk-through with a right ankle injury, will make his first NFL start against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and the club listed him as a full participant with his ankle heavily taped. Kicker Tyler Loop went on injured reserve, and Jaguars running back Bhayshul Tuten missed a second straight practice.

  • Minter said Fagnano is “cool, calm and collected” and “doesn’t really get rattled”; asked about the ankle, Fagnano said, “Fine”
  • Lamar Jackson (right thumb) and Tyler Huntley (right toe) did not practice again and will not play; Jackson is headed to injured reserve
  • Tyler Loop (right groin) was placed on injured reserve, so Jake Moody, who is on the practice squad, is set to kick
  • The Ravens signed quarterback Kedon Slovis to the 53-man roster and re-signed Austin Reed to the practice squad, so the backups this week are Slovis and Reed
  • Tuten (ankle, foot) did not practice Monday or Tuesday, and the Jaguars have not assigned a game status; Chris Rodriguez Jr. is next in line

Fagnano: from limited to full

Monday’s report was a walk-through estimate, and Fagnano was listed as limited. On Tuesday he was a full participant, with his right ankle taped. He took a low hit from Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver on Sunday, finished the game, and went 10 of 21 for 91 yards with an interception in his debut. He will be only the second undrafted rookie quarterback to start for the Ravens in their 32 seasons, after Anthony Brown in 2022. Minter also pointed to Fagnano’s preseason work: “I thought we operated really well when he was in there in the preseason, just from time on the play clock and penalties and substitutions.”

Ravens: Tuesday’s report

Besides Jackson and Huntley, safety Jaylinn Hawkins (knee) is the only other player on the 53-man roster who did not practice because of an injury, and he has not practiced since Oct. 21. Four starters moved from limited to full: Hendrickson, Smith, Stanley and guard Vega Ioane (knee). Running back Justice Hill (groin) also went from limited to full, and Nate Wiggins (stinger), Mark Andrews and Adam Randall were full again. Rosengarten, Simpson and Jenkins were limited both days.

Jaguars: Tuten still out of practice

Jacksonville (5-2) lost tackle DaVon Hamilton and safety Eric Murray to injured reserve on Tuesday, a move that follows Monday’s news that both are done for the season. Tuten, who has 492 rushing yards and three rushing touchdowns, was the only Jaguar not seen during the open part of Tuesday’s practice. Defensive end Travon Walker (ribs) moved from not practicing to limited, and Rodriguez (hand) was limited. If Tuten cannot play or is on a snap count, the Jaguars would turn to Rodriguez, with LeQuint Allen Jr. and Ameer Abdullah as depth.

What comes next

Thursday’s game is at 8:15 p.m. ET at M&T Bank Stadium, which is 3:15 a.m. Friday in Cairo. Because it is a short week, the Ravens and Jaguars file their final report on Wednesday, with game designations of out, doubtful or questionable. That report should settle Tuten’s status and show whether Fagnano’s ankle stays at full practice. Monday’s Ravens injury report is here, Tuesday’s transactions are here, and the Jaguars’ Monday injury news is here.

The why matters.
