Ravens coach Jesse Minter says Lamar Jackson and Tyler Huntley will not play Thursday against the Jaguars, rookie Joe Fagnano was limited with an ankle injury but has a chance to start, and kicker Tyler Loop (groin) could go on injured reserve with Jake Moody set to kick.

The Baltimore Ravens know who will not be their quarterback on Thursday night, but not who will. Head coach Jesse Minter said after Monday’s walk-through that Lamar Jackson (right thumb) and Tyler Huntley (toe) are both out against the Jacksonville Jaguars, and that rookie Joe Fagnano, the third quarterback, is “fighting through a couple things” with an ankle injury and has “a chance to play on Thursday.”

  • Fagnano was listed as limited in Monday’s walk-through, which the Ravens call a practice estimate; Jackson and Huntley did not take part
  • Jackson will go on injured reserve and has not had surgery on the thumb yet, Minter said, with a clearer timetable possible later this week
  • Kicker Tyler Loop missed the walk-through with a right groin injury and could go on injured reserve, so Jake Moody is expected to kick on Thursday night
  • The Ravens signed quarterback Austin Reed to the practice squad on Monday; he would have to be elevated or signed to the 53-man roster before he could play

What Minter said about the quarterbacks

Asked who starts, Minter said the Ravens are “kind of working through some things.” On Huntley, who left Sunday’s 36-10 loss to the Bills in the second quarter, he said, “We’ll see how it goes from a long-term standpoint.” Huntley did not practice, and his turf toe is no longer an “MRI on Monday” question: he will not play this week.

Fagnano finished the game after a low hit from Bills defensive tackle Ed Oliver, went 10 of 21 for 91 yards with an interception and a lost fumble, and played 40 snaps in his debut. His left knee took the hit, but the injury that now matters is the ankle. If he starts, he would be only the second undrafted rookie quarterback to start for the Ravens in their 32 seasons, after Anthony Brown in the 2022 season finale in Cincinnati.

The Ravens’ first report of the week

Because the team held a walk-through on a short week, the report is an estimate of who would have practiced. It lists Jackson, Huntley, Loop, safety Jaylinn Hawkins (knee) and defensive lineman Calais Campbell (rest) as not practicing, and nine players as limited.

Also limited were running back Justice Hill (groin), nose tackle John Jenkins (knee), right tackle Roger Rosengarten (ankle), guard John Simpson (back) and left tackle Ronnie Stanley (rest, toe, ankle).

Loop’s groin and the Moody switch

Minter said Loop had been “dealing with something small that it kind of became a little bit more.” Moody, a former third-round pick of the 49ers, joined the practice squad for the second time on Oct. 20 and has made 64 of 82 field goals and 107 of 110 extra points in his career. Loop missed a 34-yard attempt on Sunday and sent the opening kickoff out of bounds. Like Reed, Moody must be elevated or signed before Thursday.

The Jaguars come in with their own losses

Jacksonville (5-2) is also thin on defense. Coach Liam Coen confirmed on Monday that tackle DaVon Hamilton (quad) and safety Eric Murray (elbow) are done for the season, and the team signed tackle Austin Johnson to the practice squad. The Jaguars also listed running back Bhayshul Tuten and defensive end Travon Walker as not practicing in their own estimated report.

What comes next

Thursday’s game is at 8:15 p.m. ET, which is 3:15 a.m. Friday in Cairo. The Ravens and Jaguars each get a second report on Tuesday and a final one on Wednesday, and those will show whether Fagnano moves from limited to full and whether Loop goes on injured reserve. How Jackson and Huntley got hurt is here, and the Jaguars’ Monday injury news is here.

The why matters.
