Six of the quarterbacks at the top of 2027 NFL Draft conversations played on Saturday, October 31, the day the midseason scouts’ poll for QB1 came out, and only one of them lost: the man who won that poll.
Oklahoma State’s Drew Mestemaker threw five touchdown passes at Iowa State and led three fourth-quarter touchdown drives to take a 49-48 lead with 53 seconds left, then watched Kyle Konrardy kick a 34-yard field goal as time expired for a 51-49 Cyclones win. Miami’s Darian Mensah kept the top-ranked Hurricanes unbeaten at North Carolina, and South Carolina’s LaNorris Sellers had the loudest day of the group at Oklahoma.
The last column is each player’s vote total in the midseason poll of 25 NFL scouts and executives on who will be the first quarterback drafted.

Mestemaker: five touchdowns in a loss
Mestemaker went 27 of 42 for 323 yards with five touchdowns and one interception at Jack Trice Stadium. The last of his three fourth-quarter scoring drives ended with a 7-yard touchdown pass to Wyatt Young for a 49-48 lead.
Young was flagged for unsportsmanlike conduct on the go-ahead touchdown, so Oklahoma State kicked off from its own 20, and Iowa State used the extra field position to set up Konrardy’s winner.
Oklahoma State said it was Mestemaker’s seventh straight game with at least 300 passing yards and multiple touchdown passes, tying the longest single-season streak in Big 12 history, and his seventh straight 300-yard game matched Mason Rudolph’s school record. It was his 16th career 300-yard game, and the Cowboys are 5-3.
Mensah stays perfect, Sellers wakes up
Mensah completed 22 of 29 passes for 274 yards and three touchdowns with no interceptions and ran four times for 36 yards in a 38-35 win in Chapel Hill. Malachi Toney scored twice, a Marquise Lightfoot strip-sack recovered by Justin Scott swung the fourth quarter, and Miami is 8-0.
Sellers, who did not get a vote in the midseason poll after getting two in August, threw for 301 yards and three touchdowns on 19-of-24 passing and ran 13 times for 96 yards and two more scores in a 42-25 win at Oklahoma. His touchdown passes went 84 yards to DJ Black and 79 yards to Mazeo Bennett Jr.; he also threw two interceptions. It was South Carolina’s third straight win.
Dane Brugler posted a clip of the Black touchdown with the caption “LaNorris Sellers javelin.” Lance Zierlein wrote that Sellers “waking from his prolonged slumber over the last four weeks is exactly what this upcoming draft is going to need. More discussions about more QBs.”
Manning, Chambliss and Carr
Texas’ Arch Manning was 16 of 20 for 220 yards and three touchdowns, the first a 14-yard throw to Cam Coleman, in a 31-3 win over Mississippi State, though he was sacked five times and netted 10 yards on 13 carries. Ole Miss’ Trinidad Chambliss, the top quarterback on Rob Rang’s latest top 50 at No. 7, threw for 263 yards and two touchdowns with one interception and ran for 65 yards and a 26-yard score in a 45-15 win over Auburn.
Notre Dame’s CJ Carr, second in the poll with four votes, was 19 of 29 for 210 yards and two touchdowns in a 35-13 win over Navy at Gillette Stadium. LSU’s Sam Leavitt had a bye, and Oregon’s Dante Moore is out for the season after his concussion.
Elsewhere: Becker and Goosby
Brugler also called Indiana receiver Charlie Becker “very clearly a top-10 prospect in this draft,” adding that he likes the class but that it is “light on true blue-chip guys.” Asked by a fan about Texas tackle Trevor Goosby, who has slipped down boards this fall, Brugler replied that Goosby “was having a poor season and now the medicals are even worse. Don’t see a 1st round pick.”
Mestemaker and Oklahoma State play at Kansas State next Saturday, and Leavitt’s LSU hosts Alabama the same day.
