Egypt’s clocks go back next week: Panthers-Packers is the only NFL game that starts an hour earlier in Cairo

Egypt turns its clocks back one hour at midnight next Thursday, Oct. 29, when 12:00 am becomes 11:00 pm and winter time begins on Friday, Oct. 30. The United States follows three days later, at 2 am on Sunday, Nov. 1. For NFL fans in Cairo, that leaves one game with a different kickoff time than usual: Panthers at Packers on Thursday night in Week 8 starts at 2:15 am on Friday, an hour earlier than the 3:15 am start for Thursday games so far this season.

Everything else stays where it is. Between Oct. 30 and Nov. 1, New York is six hours behind Cairo instead of seven. Once the U.S. changes its clocks, the gap is back to seven hours, so Sunday afternoon, Sunday night and Monday night games keep the Cairo start times fans have had since September.

Cairo kickoff times before and after the change

The early Thursday start comes because Carolina and Green Bay kick off at 8:15 pm Eastern on Oct. 29, which is after Egypt has gone back to winter time but before the U.S. has. The Week 9 Thursday game, Jacksonville at Baltimore on Nov. 5, is back at 3:15 am Friday in Cairo.

Week 8 in Cairo time

The Houston Texans, New Orleans Saints, New York Giants and San Francisco 49ers are on bye in Week 8. Here is every game, in Cairo time:

The European games all start at 4:30 pm in Cairo

The three remaining games in Europe all kick off at 9:30 am Eastern, and all three land at 4:30 pm in Cairo, before and after the clock changes:

• Steelers vs. Saints, Paris: this Sunday, Oct. 25, at the Stade de France. France turns its clocks back early on Sunday morning, so kickoff is 3:30 pm in Paris and 4:30 pm in Cairo. Storm Austen has already shut the fan festival and wiped out the Steelers’ walk-through at the stadium.
• Bengals vs. Falcons, Madrid: Sunday, Nov. 8 (Week 9), at the Bernabéu, 3:30 pm in Madrid and 4:30 pm in Cairo. Pablo Sáinz-Villegas and Taylor Momsen will sing the anthems.
• Patriots vs. Lions, Munich: Sunday, Nov. 15 (Week 10), at Bayern Munich’s stadium, 3:30 pm in Munich and 4:30 pm in Cairo.

The last international game of the season is a night game: Vikings vs. 49ers in Mexico City on Sunday, Nov. 22 (Week 11), at 8:20 pm Eastern, which is 7:20 pm in Mexico City and 3:20 am Monday in Cairo.
