Chapter 1

No. 8 overall

Robinson won the Doak Walker Award as the best running back in college football at Texas in 2022, and the Falcons took him eighth overall in the 2023 draft, the highest a running back had gone since 2018.

As a rookie he split the load, but he still touched the ball 272 times and played all 17 games.

Chapter 5

Sunday: Morris on the other side

Morris coached Robinson for two seasons. Now he is the defensive coordinator of the 6-0 49ers, who visit Mercedes-Benz Stadium on Sunday, Oct. 25, at 1 p.m. ET, 20:00 Cairo time.

“He certainly is arguably the best player in the National Football League. He's special.”
— Raheem Morris, 49ers defensive coordinator
“Obviously he's a father figure, big brother to me, and to get to play him and his defense, and just how well they've been doing, is a testament to him and what he's done.”

“You gotta keep him behind the line of scrimmage. You gotta swarm tackle this guy. You gotta get him on the ground.”
— Raheem Morris

In 57 career games Robinson has 4,551 rushing yards, 1,882 receiving yards and 39 touchdowns. The last time he faced the 49ers, they held him to 40 yards on the ground. Sunday is the first time he faces the coach who gave him 304 carries in a season.

The why matters.
