The Houston Texans waived defensive end Chris Braswell on Tuesday and released center Gavin Gerhardt and receiver Daniel Sobkowicz from the practice squad, the club announced. Aaron Wilson reported the moves.

Two weeks on the 53, no snaps

Braswell joined Houston’s practice squad on September 1 after the Tampa Bay Buccaneers cut him at the final roster deadline, and the Texans signed him to the active roster on September 30. He did not appear in a game for Houston and was inactive for Sunday’s win over the Tennessee Titans.

Tampa Bay drafted Braswell 57th overall in 2024 out of Alabama. He played all 34 regular-season games across his two seasons with the Buccaneers without a start, totaling 48 combined tackles, 2.5 sacks, five tackles for loss and a forced fumble. In 2025 he played 17 games with 30 tackles and one sack. Greg Auman reported the Texans’ decision on Tuesday.

At 24, the former five-star recruit is now available to any team through the waiver process.

Practice-squad shuffle

The practice-squad releases made room for quarterback Mark Gronowski and receiver Bryce Oliver, who rejoined the practice squad on Wednesday, when Houston also activated right tackle Braden Smith from injured reserve. The Texans face the Jacksonville Jaguars in London on Sunday.

The why matters.
